Voting at the Nationalist Party headquarters is underway as councillors elect the party’s president, a post vacated when Victor Scerri resigned following a controversy over the construction of a farmhouse in Bahrija.

The two candidates for the post, Lija Mayor Ian Castaldi Paris and Hamrun local councillor Paula Mifsud Bonnici voted at 6.15 pm alongside PN leader Lawrence Gonzi and General Secretary Paul Borg Olivier.

Addressing councilors at the start of the general council, which comes to an end on Sunday, Dr Borg Olivier said the party would be discussing five policy areas: work, environment, education, health and consumer protection.

The general council will tomorrow split up into five work shops, each tackling the individual policies.
