Maltese soldiers trained by Italian Military Mission
Maltese soldiers have recently completed training provided by the Italian Military Mission.
A VIP Sensitive Sites Security training-course for an AFM officer and 12 non-commissioned officers was organised at one regiment and a tactical transport-helicopter movement certification course for officer-cadets was conducted at another.
This AFM officer-cadets’ course was split into a theoretical portion, which was held at the IMM’s HQ at Luqa Barracks, and a practical phase conducted at the AFM’s Air Wing base , l-Ahrax Point in Mellieha, and Fort Campbell in Selmun.
The Italian Air Force AB212 helicopter platform was used for the training of the eight Maltese officer-cadets and their three directing-staff NCOs from the regiment’s training school.
Practical training sessions included embarkation and disembarkation drills by day and by night, as well as the simulated recovery of casualties on board. This was encompassed in training for the preparation, identification and organisation of a helicopter landing zone.
The VIP Sensitive Sites Security training-course was aimed at providing the technical know-how with a view to establishing on site a proper security plan.
A certificate-awarding ceremony was held at the mission’s headquarters today. It was presided by the Commanding Officer, Colonel Rocco Vastola.

Seeing this video ( I know it is part of a whole exercise ) I start smiling. When I was 15, I joined the R.M.A. ( 1963 ) and we use to have like these exercises every month. I still remember that one of the exercise ( in Germany combined with the British soldiers ) took us a whole month, and it was like living in hell. One day , during this exercise there was an accident, while dropping the paratroopers, they fell in the forest and while 2 of them died many were seriously injured. You will forget that you are a human being. Anyway, good luck to all the Maltese forces, because I know the difficult and dedicated job they have, and THANK YOU.

This is good to see. I couldn't make out from the vid.clip what language was being used. Can the Italians only train AFM soldiers who can speak Italian, because I doubt that the Italian instructors can speak Maltese? I'm curious.

It is about time the Maltese take national security into account.
A very well done to the AFM for the progress they're making into training soldiers. Keep it up!
