AFM soldiers who recently joined 1 Infantry Regiment are conducting a two-day exercise in the ruins of the White Rocks complex to hone their skills in fighting in an urban area.
The exercise, watched by experts from the Italian Military Mission, pits two groups of men against each other. The focus today saw one of the groups preparing defences and booby traps and taking up observation positions, while the attacking group carried out reconnaissance probed the defences, tested them but then disengaged while plans were made for a proper attack.
The men are firing blanks and using smoke bombs.
The exercise continues tonight and tomorrow.
