No one was injured in a blaze in the Loreto ward of St Vincent de Paule Home last night, the Secretariat for Care for the Elderly said.

The blaze was noticed at 10.30 p.m. There were four residents in the ward at the time.

The staff evacuated the patients and called in the fire brigade, which controlled the fire in a short time. The blaze is thought to have started from an air conditioner.

Parliamentary Secretary Mario Galea was on the scene to help coordinate operations. The police are investigating.
