@All Guys can you stop putting everbody under one umbrella, can you not live by stereotyping and give people a break and a chance. Every basket has its bad apples as does the Maltese society. Maltese women, you might be shocked and surprised but a Maltese man can leave his wife for another maltese woman you know, and that has been happening for ages! You tend to be right though on one thing Maltese men tend to feel special when shown interest.

A person has died and instead of showing respect, you're discussing an issue of VISA's. I would rather leave this discussion to another place, and show dignity to the deceased person. I have no relations with this person but I wouldn't discuss any issue when someone dies.

Why we all forget about maltese who live in UK, Australia for example? they are taking someone's work places too? If a man has personal preferences why he shouldn't marry a woman from Eastern Europe? They are still human beings, aren't they? and deserve better life and sometimes, unfortunately, sometimes outside home country.
All those comments sound racist....

the real fact is that maltese men who end up having to 'buy' a wife or pay for sex are desperate as no one locally wants them!

What do u have against Eastern European people? Most EE ppl i know are nice and genuine. Dont judge and you won't be judged!!!Instead of arguing, better say a prayer for a poor human being who lost her life in a horrible fate!!!!!!!! Peace!

Having met people and women from various countries in the European continent, and, coming from a background where I was raised with a certain stereotype on Eastrn European women, I can now say that I had the most wrong mis conception about these women.

I read a few posts of maltese women here, and I cannot help myself from smiling.
I am not writing this post to answer any of them, because ironically, these very same maltese women here would proudly announce themselves as non racist whenever an argument on illigal immigration props up! Ah the irony :)

While there is a number of Eastern European women who move to the West for better life, I can say that it is a total wrong misconception that they move for prostitution etc.

And besides, I can also say that the easiest women I met, till now, were indeed Maltese.

I KNOW we have lost the thread somewhat and frankly, I'm not even too hot under the collar about illegal immigrants/workers, having a somewhat live and let live mentality (its licit for you to try it on, its the authorities right/duty to nab you) but as regards East European women - c'mon guys, - I'm always rooting for the ladies but for the most part you really have to be naive to believe they marry locally for love !

How dare you?? Who are you to call ALL Maltese women ugly, unlovable, spoilt and class them as having weak moral values?

Did your own mother (who I assume is Maltese) possess the characteristics you implied on Maltese women?

I really wish you and other Maltese men who share your opinion happiness and long term relationships with any women you choose to date or marry, that way Maltese women will not have to listen to you.

Malta has become a ' free for all' country. Foreigners can come and go whenever ,and stay for as long, as they wish. The authorities don't seem to bother at all. Border control simply does not exist.

I would like to reply to some points made in earlier comments! I am Maltese and both I am many of my friends who happen to be Maltese as well prefer Eastern European women to Maltese. On a second point non EU workers should not be able to work in Malta unless they have a job that there are no Maltese to do, so why non EU workers from whatever nationality are here working in menial jobs, that should not be allowed, why they are is a failure of the present PN government who as we have seen are issueing permits for any job. A third point Eastern Europeans assimilate do Africans? I do not think so!

Many young women from Russia/the Ukraine are coming over to settle in Malta as the wives/mistresses of Maltese men. There are even website agencies specializing in finding foreign partners for such women who want to settle abroad. Many Maltese men love blonde Russians/ Ukrainians and several have actively sought out such agencies specializing in enabling young women to settle in foreign countries by partnering them with men who demand such women. Unfortunately I have also heard of Maltese married men bringing over such girls and settling with them after leaving their wives and children. I also suspect that certain such girls from the ex-soviet block countries are being lured into Malta with the promise of marriage but then end up being forced to work as prostitutes for pimps/more organized and upscale paid escort organizations.

Moreover, several foreign controlled legal businesses in Malta prefer to recruit workers from their own countries and bring them over to work in Malta. Whether they all have the required work permit or not – and how such a permit was obtained in cases where it was issued - is a question which I am totally unqualified to answer.

Really sirs,do you honestly think that I do not know which countries are part of the EU.?I was only being sarcastic, in spite of the fact its the lowest form of wit.Of course Russia and the ukraine are not in the EU so why are there so many people from these countries on this island, working, producing children,going to yoga classes,owning cars, taking jobs which should go to our people. We want no illegal immigrants here no matter where they come from. Someone, in some government department is not doing their job .

Ms Clair Spiteri, Ukraine and Russia are NOT in the EU. ONLY Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania are in the EU. Those three states where independent before the Second World War, but they where annexed by Russia during World War II.

So No, They cannot stay here as long as they wish.

The prosecuter said that some Ukrainians were overstaying in Malta. The police did not know about their overstaying. They came to their knowledge because of the above incident. I suggest those responsible should be demoted.

Does it need an alleged wife's murder to discover foreigners with expired visas? Considering this piece of news, I wonder how many MORE go undetected!

what about these immigrants staying illegally in Malta?? Or no one says anything because they are from the East and not Africans??
