Six applications for trackless trains

Over the past five years, the Public Transport Authority has received six applications for the operation of trackless trains. To date it has issued only one permit, on August 6, 2008.

Answering a parliamentary question by Nationalist MP Ċensu Galea, Transport Minister Austin Gatt said the operation of the only trackless train to date was on an exclusive basis and regulated by a contract between the ADT and the operator.

In the meantime, the government has directed the ADT to present technical advice on how the sector should be regulated.
