Maltese travels pick up in September
A total of 33,761 Maltese went abroad in September, an increase of 10.9 per cent compared to the same month last year. 87.3 per cent travelled by air.
The National Statistics Office said that 87.6 per cent travelled to EU destinations, the most popular being Italy and the UK (32 and 23.4 per cent), respectively. Nearly half of these outbound passengers fell in the 25-44 age bracket.
Between January and September, the number of outbound passengers reached 229,664, almost unchanged from last year's figures.
Of these 198,740 travelled to EU destinations, mainly Italy and the UK, which together accounted for 64.6 per cent of the total EU trips. The number of non-EU trips dropped by 5.7 per cent.

These comments about the utility bills are absurd and have become nauseating. Granted that nobody wants to pay more for essential services, granted that nobody likes paying VAT, income tax and other taxes; everybody prefers to spend this money on clothes, travelling, cars, CDs and other toys. But then we, the consumers, have to pay for these services; who else, Father Christmas? Judging by the number of new and used luxury cars on the road, by the number of people who travelled abroad, by the full reataurants and cafeterias, I am far from convinced that the utulity rates are so onerous. An average family of 4 persons living in an average town house or apartment is not paying more that Eur800 a year on W&E, that's a mere Eur2 a day, equivalent to the pocket money of a 10 year-old and LESS than a pack of cigarettes. So stop making all this fuss and copying Joseph Muscat. In his case it's understandable that he keeps harping on the 'exorbitant' utility bills. He has to say something to keep his followers happy although he does not strike me as being convinced either.

because in Malta half of the population is in the red due to electricity tariffs while the other half prefers the blue skies of freedom.
