Chamber looks forward to early resumption of MCESD talks

The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry looks forward to the early resumption of discussions at the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development on how the country is to tackle issues such as inflation, the Cost of Living Adjustment mechanism and labour flexibility.

The chamber expressed its satisfaction at the constructive social dialogue that took place prior to the 2010 budget and acknowledged “the tireless efforts” of MCESD chairman Sonny Portelli and his team.

Now that the 2010 budgetary process is concluded, the Malta Chamber looks forward to the actual and early implementation of the measures announced during the budget speech.

“Furthermore, and in line with what was discussed at MCESD, the chamber wants these and other priority issues to be settled well in advance of the next pre-budget consultation discussions.

“This is required to ensure that the decisions are professionally researched and planned. It is imperative that past mistakes in terms of approach are avoided especially in view of the fact that the economic outlook for 2010 is still a very bleak one.”
