Berlin marks 20 years since wall fell
Chancellor Angela Merkel along with world leaders last night hailed the human courage that toppled the Berlin Wall 20 years ago.
World leaders past and present joined thousands of Germans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin war.
During an evening of emotion and ceremony Berlin once again became a symbol of the fight for freedom around the world.
Chancellor Angela Merkel - herself from East Germany said the falling of the wall was a cause for joy and personally very significant.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was when a huge row of dominoes, representing the wall, was toppled over.

All the world was happy on 9th November, 1989....... except the simplyfication of democracy.... Dame Margaret Thatcher ....... What a joke ....... In twenty years time this newspaper will most probably tell us that it was because of her that the Berlin wall was brought down!!!!!!

I remember 20 years ago, how the year unfolded, one authoritarian regime after the other fell, and the wall was pulled down. There was such a relief - no nuclear war after all - and happiness.
This was before the Balkan wars, of course.
