Sullivan beats Abela in mixed singles final

The final stages of the mixed singles tournament was played last weekend at the Eden Superbowl.

The top four who made it to Sunday's semi-finals were Mark Spiteri 1,211, Neil Sullivan 1,223, Kenneth Arpa 1,294 and Sue Abela 1,310.

Here, top seed Abela eliminated Spiteri 411-398 and Sullivan had the better of Arpa 437-390.

Sullivan started strongly in the final and easily beat Abela who was struggling with her timing.

Sullivan was a clear 214-152 winner.

Abela knew she needed a big score in the second game to stay in the reckoning.

She started with nine spare and five strikes in a row but the pin difference against from the first game and Sullivan's solid performance was too much for her.

In the end, Abela finished 10 pins short after total scores of 428-418 for tournament winner Sullivan.
