Police investigating alleged abuse of power by Mayor
The police are investigating reports of abuse of power by the Mayor of Zebbug, the Prime Minister has confirmed in Parliament.
He was replying to a question by Nationalist MP Philip Mifsud after the media reported that the mayor had engaged council workers to work in his house. The workers had been seconded to the council by IPSL (Industrial Projects Services Ltd) which assigns work to former dockyard workers.
The Prime Minister said a report on the alleged abuse had been made directly to IPSL and not the Department of Local Government.
When the allegations were confirmed as being well founded, the three workers assigned to the council were transferred to other councils.
Dr Gonzi said the department is collecting information on the case and the police are investigating.
The Mayor, Brian Bonnici, resigned yesterday.

Seems like when you are in full control of the police and the courts you can do whatever you like. Sort of "Il-Gvern taghna, u naghmlu li rridu". Is that how it goes these days?

But why did the three man assisgned for the good of the whole of Zebbug have to be taken away when one person is alleged to have abused of his power. Its as usual punish everybody for one person's possible mistakes

Would the same action be taken if instead of the Mayor of Zebbug it was a P.N. Mayor or even a Minister.
