Female PM? Only if she's straight, white and Catholic!
The Maltese will readily accept a female to run the country as Prime Minister... provided she is not a lesbian, has the same ethnic origin as the rest of the population and is Roman Catholic.
This emerges from a Eurobarometer survey on discrimination in Europe, published yesterday by the European Commission in Brussels.
The survey, conducted by Misco in May, shows that the overwhelming majority of Maltese, 77 per cent, think discrimination against immigrants in Malta is rampant and has become more widespread over the last five years.
Ethnic origin is the most widespread form of perceived discrimination on the island, according to the survey's respondents, followed by sexual orientation. The most striking responses from the survey surfaced when respondents were asked whether they would be comfortable having a person from a particular category occupying the country's highest political office.
The results show that although the majority said they would be fine with having a woman at Castille - 78 per cent were comfortable and 13 per cent disagree with the idea - only 22 per cent would accept having a Maltese Prime Minister embracing a different religion to theirs. The majority, 69 per cent, admitted they would be uncomfortable if the Prime Minister was not Roman Catholic.
Other characteristics were also deemed to be of utmost importance in the profile of a Maltese Prime Minister. In fact, 45 per cent said they would be very uncomfortable if the person was gay or lesbian and 73 per cent said they would not accept having a leader of a different ethnic origin.
Age also seems to play an important role, as maturity is deemed important in a Prime Minister: 45 per cent said they would not feel comfortable with a person who was under 30, although 46 per cent said this would be acceptable. On the other hand, 78 per cent said they would feel uncomfortable having a Prime Minister aged over 75 years.
Generally, the survey's results show discrimination in Malta is perceived as more widespread with regard to ethnic origin and sexual orientation when compared to the rest of the EU. On the other hand, Malta is more tolerant than the EU average when it comes to discrimination on the basis of disability and gender.

Irrespective of our differences, I believe you to be a lady who loves her country and would like our nation to be prosperous and happy without the outflux of good people who are fleeing our shores because of the deep greed, ignorance and selfishness that has become so endemic in our society.
Who do you think i am referring to when i say Mediterraneans ? You might be a racist if you where thinking only Southern Europeans qualify as mediterraneans right ? The Arabs and the Berbers are not much less. In fact you might find it difficult to distinguish between an arab and a southern european, but if you put a Nigerian/Chinese into the Equation than you'll see the difference, even Culturally of course.
I hold to the obviuos Fact, that The Maltese are a mix of Mediterranean and European Stock. And there is nothing wrong with that !
1. "it is only they exist because the outflux of humanity moved accordingly and mankind evolved to adapt to its environment"
Got the point, just keep believing what you have said below :
"Fact: the present stock of humanity descends from black African genes: meaning we are all descendants of black people"
2. "Fourthly, my opinion is an alternative to an otherwise xenophobic nation"
What xenophobic nation ? It is people like you who want to impose the Modern Multiracial society on us and NOT vice versa, we are on the defensive here ! You cannot accept THE OBVIOUS FACT that the Maltese have Racial Characteristics which distinguish them from other races. That you can distinguish a Maltese from a Chinese from a Nigerian you view as something wrong, why ? You want to eliminate the Racial Characteristic form the equation, as if the way we look, our physicial characteristics and features and hereditary traits and ancestry has nothing to do with the Maltese National Identity.
Even our Historic Figures look Caucasoid. Why ? All works of art inside our churches is Racist according to you right ?
First of all common sense, does not make it science. That is a popular and narrow view - casual observation is not scientific evidence. Secondly, theories are believed and subsequently tested through hypothesis. A hypothesis is an expectation. The material I sent you are NOT just expectations. There is sufficient evidence to substantiate the hypothesis. This does not mean that there aren't racial differences: it is only they exist because the outflux of humanity moved accordingly and mankind evolved to adapt to its environment. Thirdly, do not base yourself on Wikipedia but read before forming an opinion (see 1 above). Fourthly, my opinion is an alternative to an otherwise xenophobic nation who would never except someone in the leader's chair who might be capable but not of the right colour of skin or race. This, whichever way you term it, is racism. There is nothing inherently wrong in wanting a Maltese in power as long as they are capable. My argument is that if a black/lesbian/atheist is better then I would go for her. You are saying, never because she isn't the right colour, ethnic origin, sexual/religious orientation. Oh you forgot Arabs in your Maltese ethnicity equation.
"You have circumvented all my arguments with nonsense"
Neither you are hardly answering any questions but insisting on portraying your own views according to what hypothesis you prefer to believe. The only nonsense here is the fact that you think that what you say is right, and all i said is Nonsense. Much of what i said is Common sense and NATURE proves it. You have just to look around you. You spot the difference easily.
I will get back to my first point, on track of the topic. There is NOTHING wrong in The Maltese wanting a "White" PM because they are "white" themselves (and please do not play the skin colour card because it is irrelevant - the maltese are a mix of mediterranean and european stock). A Maltese can be Easily distinguished from a Nigerian or a Chinese because his racial characteristics are miles apart, and do not get me started with culture (look at the USA). What is the problem in wanting a Prime Minister who is ethnically Maltese ? afterall it is our prime minister representing us, not China or Nigeria.
What does culture have to do with racial evolution. If you stick a racial Nigerian baby into Sweden, he will become culturally Swedish as culture is a socially LEARNED and conditioned not genetically imposed phenomenon. This is fact and I cannot understand why you continue basing your arguments on Wikipedia. Please, first read the books and material I suggested, then you can form a real opinion and have a real discussion. You have circumvented all my arguments with nonsense. Plus you haven't answered my original questions. You are choosing only those sentences that please you. Oh if you want to know who says that culture is a learned phenomenon, I'll give you material on that too...
"The evidence is there, you just need to read"
Read what ? Everyone reads the hypothesis they feel comfortable believing.
"are black because of millions of years (evolution) living in the climatic conditions warranting suck changes"
millions of years living in those climate conditions ?
Skin color is irrlevant. You can paint a Nigerian skin in White and his hair in blonde. That will not make him a Swedish neither Physically (skull and facial characteristics) and neither Psychologically. The point is that Races exist and differences between them are a reality. I do not know why people are afraid of this ???
Simple Example with Common Sense :
The Average Nigerian is Physically in terms of Strength and Built, much superior to the average Chinese ! These races can never be equal no matter how much some people try to bridge the difference. Even their sexual organs (according to u - its the environment). That is a Fact which you can see.
The Average Nigerian way of thinking and his "civilization" is different to the Chinese way of thinking and civilization. Facts not hypothesis.
I recently read somewhere that smoking among the young is on the increase. I think it would be more useful for Malta to do its own survey and find out if smoking among the young in Malta is on the increase, and if so, why. Also, alcohol consumption, and why. And equally important, the use of contraceptives, or lack of them, and again, why. The results of such a survey would, hopefully, take the temperature of where Maltese society is heading.
Some Maltese who moved abroad, but not all, do get to view life differently. Their comments are merely an opinion. They are not arrogant. They do not comment to change things. No need to get all defensive and claim that everything in Malta is fine when it obviously isn't.
Malta is small but that is immaterial. A country's best resource are its people. Maltese people as a nation are no better or worse than any other. But perfect it is not. In my opinion - note the words - what is needed is for people anywhere to identify what could be changed and improved and work to bring about those changes. Malta's small size could in fact work in its favour if anything.
Living abroad can be fine but life is never a piece of cake wherever one lives. So please don't be too hard on us, living as we are so deprived of Maltese light, in its uniqueness. Ask the painters.
What are you pointing at are NOT facts but hypothesis (that book you mentioned is a hypothesis). You still haven't directed us to a single research of Scientific Evidence which backs your claim below :
"Fact: the present stock of humanity descends from black African genes: meaning we are all descendants of black people"
This is not a fact. what black genes ?
And how are you so sure that the skin colour of these first people we descended from was black ? because you are making a hypotheses according to the location ?
May i remind you that if the world was really multiracial like you are saying, then the major races would have mixed themselves already long time ago, and there would be no present racial characteristics. We would all look more or less similar in our physical traits.
However (hint hint) we can clearly make a difference between a chinese, a swedish, a nigerian, and a native american. Guess why ? That is why the people living in Asia are different than the people living in Europe who are different than the people living in Congo or Nigeria.
Malta might be racist but it's nothing compared to united states and other countries with multi culture problems. they beat you up and even kill you in other countries.
No way to reason or discuss with someone like you! Maltese lately are acting like racists wether you agree or not is not my problem....not all maltese ofcourse...cause I am maltese and am no a racist at all...am open to all nations ...any colour any religion any sex orientation...does not scare me ....wishing all the best to Malta is nothing wrong ...in some aspects Malta is drowning or maybe I know Malta better than yourself living there???
Am often in Malta ..the fact that I do not live there does not mean I abbondoned my country...so please read well what I wrote and what I meant...and start by not hating your own co citizens who for some reason live abroad!!!! To those maltese who are still racists I say... the world is one and very small so enough with racismmmmm....and viva Malta and the clever Maltesers who look always ahead and wish Malta to be a better place .
This was the worst country that was hit by the recession, in fact it went bankrupt!! So it means that I do have an argument after all...WISE GUY!!
Also do I have a right for an opinion or NO??
Your quote " cannot agree if she is gay, she will be competent as a PM. The simple reason is they are most of the time fighting for their rights, and flaunting. No hurt, but you know it is true."
Which naive, make-believe world do you live in ? We have plenty of MPs in the country I live in, within the EU, who do NOT spend most of "the time fighting for their rights, and flaunting". As you so eloquently put it ! They spend most of the time, running the country !
Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, the prime minister of Iceland (a european country) is openly lesbian and lives in the official government residence with her same-sex partner. As it so happens, Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir is the best prime minister Iceland has had in over a decade. I do not ever recall her either spending most of the time fighting for "our" rights, nor flaunting.
'If you don't like it you have the right to change it - Which part of that very simple statement, do you not understand ?
IT IS A FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHT ACCORDED TO ALL AND THE VERY ESSENCE OF A DEMOCRACY - THE RIGHT TO CHANGE !
There again, I am not sure as to whether you fully understand the concept of "Human Right" and "Democracy".
Your quote "Once agian if you do not like it pack and leave".
Is this your only argument to those of us who are not in agreement with you ? You keep repeating this statement time and again, which is becoming a trifle boring.
You want to argue something, argue with fact or with intelligent reasoning, not with "Once agian if you do not like it pack and leave !" It is the weak argument of a person clutching at straws... but there again, it does not surprise me, when I read your inconsistent and incoherent arguments.
Once again, you come across a hysterical, with such statements : You honestly think, all is right in Malta ? If so, then wake up and smell the odours of reality, for they are quite pungent ! It take a large dose of naivety, to think that Malta is so Utopic.
The voices in Malta against censorship, against racsim, and those wanting divorce and cohabitation rights to name just a few, are becoming louder each day. Comes the next election, which will bring a change of government, you will be in for a deep shock, because the tide of change will sweep the islands like a tsunami ! Perhaps then it will be time for you to leave, as you so keep asking the rest of us to do !!! However, you will find every other society within Europe to be far more progressive, liberal and tolerant, than you could cope with... so I guess you will be in quandry then !
As for religion, Yes a Muslim is not sufficient, for another simple reason that they discriminate between men & women!!
For colour it does not make a difference.
Sounds so immature that this sort of survey has been carried out, disgusting, asking such questions!!! If there is a lady out there no matter what her skin is tanned or white wether les or straight, wether a muslim or catholic if she is honest and able to lead a country she should be given the chance!!!
Non of those 3 qualities are important, ABILITY TO LEAD AND BE HONEST would be a must !!! I live abroad and am sorry to see my MALTA always more racistttttttt....a pity !!! Wish Malta always the best !!!
i said in whole Europe.
Your quote . " there are the many maltese which are leaving Malta to live in Britain they can continue to do so! If they don't like it they are free to leave just like you did! "
What is about you lot in Malta that you keep saying if you do not like it, you are free to leave. That is pure and sheer arrogance !
You have obviously not heard of the basic human right of, IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHANGE IT ????????? This is what happens in democracies, correcting what is not right and putting in legislation where inequalites and injustices are put right, THROUGH CHANGE !
CHANGE IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF EVOULTION AND PROGRESSION.
You do NOT own Malta. I am equally a Maltese citizen like you, and I have the right to demand change, where I see fit ! Live with that ! You have no right to decide who I should marry, I have the right to marry a member of my own sex and I HAVE ! Likewise, I have no right to stop you going to your church !
You keep coming across as very inconsistent in your statements. You are like the kettle trying to call the pot, black. Understood ?
U mbilli Malta suppost l-iktar pajjiz kattoliku fid-dinja... evalwa... l-iktar pajjiz li hawn dagha, ipokrezija, ghira, mibeghda, etc. Imma l-aqwa li taghmel present fuq il-bank nhar ta hadd u titfa xi haga fil-qoffa
This world he promised would end, it will even without his intervention because with all this sexual perversion and political corruption it is flushing itself down the toilet.
Then we say that we are christians......christians my foot.....
All the rest of the homophobes/African haters (surprisingly no one speaks of white people working illegally in Malta), listen to your Christ who preached compassion and brotherly love: love thy neighbour as yourself. Christ lived with criminals and prostitutes, accepting them and loving them unconditionally. You believe he died on the cross for that: shouldn't we by that logic support those who are treated unfairly by the inadequacies of the law and our law makers who fail to take action lest they lose votes. Malta, it's wake up time!
Yoru quote : "All countries you mentioned are not very strong in their values & and most of these laws are passed by socialist goverments! You can't excpect any better from socialists ".
If you were not taking yourself so seriously with these arguments, I would be laughing hysterically. There again I am now laughing hysterically!
Ooohh, I forgot, let's blame the Socialists for all the problem we have in Europe ... and the rest of the world for that matter. It certainly looks like that way, according to your point of view
Do we sense hysteria coming across once again, anybody ?
As you say, you are not an extreme catholic.... You are just unable to live in a democratic society where even minorities have the exact same rights as the majority !
All countries you mentioned are not very strong in their values & and most of these laws are passed by socialist goverments! You can't excpect any better from socialists & Yes ! values are being lost. You can still move forward and keep same values & ideas! I am not going to rush indoors or hide behing curtains but I will still stick to my opinion! Please If you give the southern european countries to vote in a referendum for Gay marrage I assure you that it will be a no by more than 55% of the population!I can assure you that I am not an extreme catholic.
(1) 'to justify that the life you live is normal.' i think that you mean is 'life you live is not like mine'
(2) 'put up with a Gay couple holding hands or kissing in public'??? Trust me dude, no gay person wants you to 'put up' with him/her! We are here, and all around you - you'd be surprised!! If anything, gay people, including myself, have to put up with ignorance and hatred instilled deep in the souls of people such as yourself!
(3) 'In fact being gay is not normal at all!! It's not the way God created': what 'fact' are you exactly refering to? again, by n'ormal' you mean 'not like you'. so tell me Dr Theologian - who created me? :)
go and get a life, and live it your own way. Saying 'God' so many times does not make you a 'good' person.
Once again, and I do hope that this does finally get through to you : God does NOT exist and religion is a pile of nonsense as far as I am concerned, and not you or anyone else will convince me otherwise, so please stop wasting your time and mine !
In the meantime, enjoy your religion and your God, for I have no problem with the fact that you have the right to believe in whatever you choose. Likewise I have the right to believe in NOT believing !
And do not start me on crosses in public places, clearly another subject which for me as an Athiest is self explanatory !
Your quote : Not just London Britain is full of Crime! You can't compare London to Malta as it is very dangerous especially in the evening's
Am not sure which London you are refering to, but the one, I lived in for 15 years, beign the capital of England, is not exactly dangerous as you call it. Never once, in all the years I lives there, did I EVER find it dangerous.
You also seem to forget that London has a population 11 million people in it, so crime is proprotioned accordingly per capita.
Hmmm, if it were such a DANGEROUS city that you claim it is, then please expalin to me why a large number of Maltese vacation there, and please explain the exodus of Maltese moving to London to live, since Malta joined the EU ? It must have been that they are looking for DANGEROUS adventures !
Do you realize how hysterical you come across in your posts ?
I assure you that you don't speak for the majority of the Maltese, when you share your views.
You do not belong to a modern-day society. You speak as someone who still lives in the 17th century in his mind..... medieval is the word which comes to mind.
Let's me once again remind you that even SPAIN, a catholic, mediterranean, southern European country of over 55 million catholics, legalised GAY MARRIAGE a few years ago. So your argument of North / South Europe / free-for-all issue, is a very weak argument and you are clutching at straws. Basically, you are saying that if countries move forward with the times, they have no values ? What kind of argument is this ? Oh yeah, I forgot, Malta with its extreme conservatism is right.... and the rest of the world is wrong !
Kissing a same-sex partner in the streets in Malta is NOT illegal. If you don't like it, look the other way, or run home and hide behind the curtains.
Your Maltese FAITH IS A MULTIMILLENIUM JOKE.
See Mr. Gauci, you proved my point. How can you compare a vibrant city like London, with a population of 7 million to little old Malta. Of course we,re bound to have more crime and terrorists, but please put it into perspective, London is so vast , that you have to be really unlucky to be affected by these things, you have to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
You must be quoting from tabloid headlines, and that is what I mean when I say most Maltese are backward. I have no worries for my children and grandchildren to grow up here, in fact I,m proud of it. Leave the past and join us into the 21st. century. without bigotry..

Basically who has the money can go abroad get married, divorce, abortion, etc. I'm not gay and I hope I will never need divorce in my life. But it's discrimination against who can't afford. So I fully agree that these rights are available in Malta, and they will eventually. I don't care if 2 gay people get married, it's none of my business after all. Nobody is putting a gun to my head to marry a gay person, so it won't affect me. I just want everybody to live happy and have equal rights.
But unfortunately in Malta people confuse RIGHTS with OPINION.
London has the highest crime in Europe. did you forget the underground terrorist attack ? sure let's adapt to Multi culture and end up like London. keep it to yourself. i had rather live with bigots than with dangerous people
Sure, no problem, look at the work of Professor Stephen Oppenheimer especially "Out of Eden - The peopling of the world". The guy is a world-recognised expert in DNA studies. Otherwise feel free to look at palaeontology journals as well.
Also, if you read my other posts, many remain unanswered as to your stance about compassion, the imperialistic rush into Africa by western powers (and now china), and those who traffic in illegal immigrants including some Maltese AND those who abuse them for low wages. Or is it a question of selective attention?
Gay marriage is legal in several EU countries : The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain ( Catholic country if there ever was one), Sweden and Norway - an EFTA country.
In addition : Civil unions, civil partnerships, domestic partnerships, registered partnerships, or unregistered partnership/unregistered co-habitation legal status offer varying portions of the legal benefits of marriage and are available to same-sex couples in: Andorra, Australia, Colombia, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Portugal, Slovenia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Uruguay. They are also available in parts of Argentina (Villa Carlos Paz, Río Cuarto, Ciudad de Buenos Aires, Río Negro), Mexico (Coahuila and the Federal District), and the United States (California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, New Jersey, Nevada, Oregon, Wisconsin and Washington, and the federal District of Columbia).
And the list keeps growing each year... and there will come a point where this WILL become legal in Malta too. I hope you are around then to watch it happen !
I am a MALTESE MALE citizen, I am - READ THIS : LEGALLY MARRIED to my Swedish HUSBAND. Married at City Hall by the Mayor of Stockholm. In the eyes of Swedish law, my marriage is no less and no more than that of 2 straights..... Oh and get this, a new law has passed here in Sweden, effective 01 January 2010, that same-sex partners CAN get married in the Swedish Lutheran Church, which is a CHRISTIAN and official church of Sweden, same as the Protestant Church Of England.
I will of course choose NOT to perform a church ceremony, for I am an Athiest and to me religion is a a load of nonsense. So keep your God to yourself, for he/she does not exist in views.
P.S. we have plenty of openly gay / lesbian MPs, Minsiters, and gay / lesbian clergy too, including various archbishops. We believe here in the "Live and Let Live" concept, something you seem unable to comprehend
If what you are saying is so true, Please point us directly to the Scientific Research which backs your following claim :
"Fact: the present stock of humanity descends from black African genes: meaning we are all descendants of black people"
As for religion, no, I cannot see my prime minister taking the oath on the Koran. There is no compromise here, though very highly unlikely. For sure not in the PN, a party professing to be a 'Christian' democrat. It would be very funny.
For all of the Maltese abroad, claiming yourself to be refugees of these islands' backward
conservatism, we are very happy that you found satisfaction elsewhere. But its not that Malta stopped functioning or got depressed without you.
I think you have your facts wrong. During the period of one Pangea, ie, around 250m years ago there were no humans!
What I said is current state of knowledge (iterating what scientists say; and you might want to look up some scientific journals on this plus a book called A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson). Also you might be curious to know that about 75k years ago it is thought that humanity was almost wiped out by what is thought to have been a massive volcanic (Toba) eruption leaving the shared genetic pool of what remains to be very narrow. This theory is based on some rather convincing findings both on the genetic pool of humanity and in the deposits found in the poles and in Toba itself. So before yelling that I do not have my facts straight, I would suggest that you do a tad of reading up to prepare yourself for proper scientific discussion
The Maltese football national team has two coloured players, with Maltese surname, where I presume one of the parents is Maltese. I dont think the majority of the Maltese will have any problems if for the sake of argument, any one of these ever become prime minister. The problems started with uncontrolled illegal immigration, which is inevitably and naturally having its effects on the national psyche. There is nothing wrong with some integrated colourful communities, but not at the extent of disturbing the presently very safe demographic makeup.
A makeup which is predominantly European, no matter how much one twists and sees darker shades, for otherwise we will never have been EU members, which requires a country to be European in all and everything. A fact quite forgotten. Morocco was refused entry, and it is not just a question of geography. The term 'white' here is relative, and no one is referring to anything anglo-scandinavian. By some arguments here, even Italian Sofia Loren is black.
So let us say that the Apostle Paul on his jaunt to Rome was lucky enough to have good weather. Or a better compass. Let us suppose he made it in time to Rome for his... demise. And never set foot on THE island. So Malta falls in with the tide and soon is a prosperous... Muslim satellite of... shall we say Libya? And the Arabometer survey, a few centuries later comes along and lo and behold finds out..the Maltese do not want to be lead by a Mufti who is Catholic/Christian/Maronite/Protestant... or of any other religion whatsoever! (The female part of the question was deleted as being found offensive to the Great Ayathola. The word lesbian or sexually deviant was likewise expunged). They however have no problem with the venerable age of the prospective leaders. So, to repeat, what's all the fuss about? We are who we are... (Or as Popeye would say, I am what I am) As are millions of other .. human beings from other cultures.
"Fact: the present stock of humanity descends from black African genes: meaning we are all descendants of black people."
Please can we get our Facts right at least, instead of interpretations : This is distortion of present research in an ignorant fashion !
1. The Continents as we know them didn't exist in the present form.
2. Earliest humans may have originated from one region, which in the present is located somewhere in the African continent. That does not mean they were all Negroid. (so if the location was somewhere in the americas, they should have been native american indians ? or else present day americans ? what about the great migrations ? )
It is like saying that if the earliest humans originated from a region which currently is located somehere in asia, then we are all descended from Mongols. What reasoning is that ?
May I suggest that you remove yourself from violence and this type of racial prejudice and hatred? Your rhetoric reminds me too much of extreme right wing fundamentalists. Who will be next after the black scourge is purged? non-Christians? then whom, perhaps anyone who's eyes aren't blue and have blonde hair? anyone who cannot prove they are of Arian descent (probably including yourself)? Isn't love and peace more important than war and hatred? Can't you see that the problem is not the illegal immigrants themselves but the people who engage in slavery and strip them of dignity and the politics of their own country? I am not saying that illegal immigration is not a problem. But make no mistake, your kind of verbal behaviour is compounding the problem.
As I said, you are entitled to your opinion. Why should I care? It's your lack of knowledge, not mine. I am not responsible for your way of thinking. Like in all else, personal responsibility lies with the person concerned. Nought to do with me. Sorry my old bean.
What does it matter whether a president is white, black, male or female, catholic or not?
The important thing is that he or she is chosen by the majority. Not as we once had when he elected himself.
The Italians once had an atheist as president who proved himself to be one of the best they ever had.
you are so funny. the proof is available in any scientific journal that relates to genetic. don't start conspiracy theories now to add insult to injury!
Mur ara billi ghandna Prim Ministru ragel u mhux gay! Kissru pajjiz!
Get your history and faith in tune:
Malta is a catholic constitution, no homosexual or non-catholic member can be permitted. Because the violates the constitution!
What do we want, destroy the constitution that your fathers fote (sometimes literally) for, turn this country to anarchy and fix things "for the better"?
And by the way, freedom of speech is only acceptable without attacking the constituation. UNlike most people
(No comment about white though, 'cept most maltese are rascist anyways)
I have understood everything and did not miss any points.
They want to change us to make us like them.
One single european people without their particular identities and cultures.
That is what the eu project is about.
They want to create the united states of europe but they shall NOT succeed.
The eu is going to collapse and we shall do our utmost to hasten its demise.
What you and the eu idiots call problems are NOT problems for us.
No foreigner can dictate what we want and what we should do or choose to be our PM.
They can keep their opinions and surveys to themselves.
As for the eu idiots, no Martin, they do not make life safer and healthier for us. They are there to look after their own interests and being bought by the lobbyists to impose their agendas all at our expense.
K Vella Prove that we are descendants of Africans. It's another myth to make Europeans accept Africans. As for illegal immigrants they are INVADERS of OUR country.
Marianna Galea Xuereb Perfectly agree
Robert Azzopardi Such as rioting in England and France?
I think you'll find that there is no law prohibiting a catholic from becoming Prime Minister of the UK.
Have a look round and count how many maltese people have really tight curly hair and dark skin even after dozens of generations and then think who were our ancestors and should we be racists against blacks?
I have no problem with a PM's sexual orientation or religion.. He/she has to be Maltese though.. This is Malta after all...
You haven't understand a thing.
Surveys are important, and this actual one is even more important as it shows some obvious problems of the Maltese society.
By the way, those "eu idiots" as you call them make life for all of us (including you) safer and healthier. Of course, you have a right to criticise certain behaviours and certain expenses and certain imperfections of the system. But this you can do with any administration be it a government or a company or a union etc.
Again: You miss the point!
The Maltese Islands should learn from the mistakes of other so called modern, “enlightened”, over permissive, ethnical hotchpotch countries (who have allowed gross ethnical diversity to be imposed on them by undesirable outsiders rather than evolved a gradual, natural melting pot of healthy, limited racial diversity as the Maltese have traditionally done by occasionally mating with others from Europe or the Mediterranean basin) and not blindly and stupidly emulate them.
Countries much richer, resourceful, larger and more sparsely populated than us have repeatedly experienced huge problems with crime and injustices when they started accepting absolutely everybody. How can we expect a practically barren, overpopulated and overbuilt rock not to be socially, economically and environmentally destroyed by illegal immigrant invasion?
Unbelievable!
@TGauci Lack of validity in my comment, ok I accept your opinion but at least understand that Darwin's dictums do not apply to the 21st Century. There's no Crusade planned you know!
I believe that a leader must reflect the cultural and ethical values of the country they are trying to represent.
That's not what i meant. what i meant was that you'd watch a gay couple making love and not a straight couple.
No we are not equal and i explain to you and others why: there's no purpose of marriage for gays, it's simply they can't produce offspring in order to form a family. biologically & socially two people of the same sex are unable to develop a society and i disagree with gays adopting kids for a lot of reasons.
@Stephen Borg Cardona
there's a distinguish between equal and unequal. an apple and an orange are both fruits but are unequal when it comes to flavor and nutrition. "equality" is a communist ideology.
It matters because our views and values differ from one to another . you hope to see gay marriage legalized and i am against that. in regards to race...i prefer ethnically Maltese women as a PM than ethnically African. those are my values. how am i discriminating because i don't like gay couples & people of different ethnicity than mine and you're not discriminating because you don't like straight couples & Maltese ethnicity (just saying) ?. don't get me wrong i respect everyone but there are things that i don't like in some people. using your logic, that means lesbians are discriminating against men or 99% of Africans electoral voters discriminated against McCain because they voted Obama for his ethnicity. i don't like fish - hopefully that's legal
We get the oil from Arabs not from Africans. we did never colonize Africa but Europeans did and that happened about 100 years ago. US and all wealthy countries have spend billions to curb AIDS and educate the inhabitants of Africa but failed to accomplish the goal. Africans were the ones who sold their fellow brothers into slavery for American capitalists. get your facts straight before you comment on such matters.
Did i mention skin color ? did i mention black or white ? Why are you putting color into the equation ?
It is people like you who are distorting the facts. All i said is the OBVIOUS TRUTH that the Maltese are Mediterranean and European Stock. No matter what, a Sub Saharan African and a Han Chinese are not part of the Maltese racial family. The Maltese want a Prime Minister of their own kind, thier own people, because they can relate to him/her first and foremost.
Jasmina Kotevska Since you are married to a Maltese citizen you have a right to stay here. It is those who just come and settle here in the tiniest overpopulated country that are getting on peoples nerves. This is apart from every nation not wanting a foreign settler/descendant to become its head of state.
Martin Büttner Is it not true that the eu idiots have to resort to such idiotic surveys etc to justify their exorbitant salaried paid for by our taxes?
If we will have a gay, black woman who will be intelligent enough for my vote i will be proud to vote for her but since intelligent people never enter politics i'm pretty sure i will remain at home in the future elections!!
I think you've never seen a Maltese prime minister.
Clifford, in the past things were different BUT sadly bigotry will never die. My advice is live your life and cherish those whom you love and who love you. At the end of your life, those are the only things that matter.
I don't mind you being Macedonian. You're still European and on the whole, we're all in the same boat. Your country will soon be in the EU, I'm sure.
What I don't like is your arrogance. You called most of us "cabbage heads" just because we have an opinion which is different from yours.
I find your attitude intolerant and insulting and would rather you returned to your country where the vegetables are more acceptable.
Which reminds me that most Macedonians don't like Albanians and ethnic violence is not unheard of.
What does that make you then, "bazooka heads"?
I wouldn't mind that much if the Prime Minister were to be a non-Catholic Christian. Though I'd still prefer him or her to be Roman Catholic.
As for a woman Prime Minister... I'm surprised we haven't had one yet. I rather like the idea!
Don't be shy. I told you, look them in the eye.......you never listen!
J. Kotevska, if the only problem in this country are cabbage minded people, compared to the problems in Macedonia, with all its open mindedness, me personally, would prefer to live in Malta, and am proud and privileged that I have been born here. Our only real problems are environmental, which effect our quality of life. And not what is in people's minds.
Governments of countries like Macedonia have to always be careful with every little step to balance things out within the delicate hotch potch of minorities that exists there, lest a civil war will break out again, and Macedonia becomes Little FYROM, at the expense of Greater Albania. And its not that there is nice feeling between Macedonians and ethnic Albanians.
Other than that, our country has always been blessed with good leaders. Now tell us cabbage minded people, what makes you think you should fit in that role?
You are european and not illegal in Malta. You belong here and this valid for anyone that is here legally. It is the illegal immigrants from africa that are using force to enter our country, that we will never agree to accept.
We are a mix of Mediterranean and European stock, so we have every RIGHT to PREFER AND WANT the same kind of people representing us. What do you expect ? some sub saharan african or some han chinese as our Prime Minister ? for the sake of what ? they can never be part of the Maltese family. The Native Maltese people span through generations. They have a Mediterranean and European Look. Those are the obvious facts.
We are doing nothing wrong, it is the liberals who are trying to impose their multicultural multiracial agenda and playing the race card who are on the wrong side. They are trying to portray us as "racists" and "people who discriminate". As if they are right and we are wrong.
Those people who would really like to live in a Multiracial Multicultural society are invited to go elsewhere and then we see how they like it ?
@ K Vella, the important thing is that now you know. things in the past were different, so it was sort of 'acceptable' to be apprehensive of gay people. But 2009 - man, I think sometimes people think that living in the modern age is just about having 5 star appliances and kitchens! :)
@ Joe, I know exactly what you mean by 'tolerance', you just put it more elegantly than I did - guess I was more p*ssed off when I wrote my comment, and did not have time to refine! :)
Any by the way, I have been in a loving, commited relationship for the past 8 years, so the condoms are always at home! :)
Like the other Borg, I too have left Malta and I have never felt more alive.
of course we are not equal! first of all i know that one REproduces with the opposite sex and not produce.
secondly, if i understand you correctly, what you mean by 'you rather see gay couples than straight couples and vice versa for me', again, i am not the same as you are. Most of my friends are straight couples, most of whom are married, and unlike you, they (or myself) do not feel threatened by each other. You, for some reason, are; and you rather stick to your own sad little homophobic world! (That is, for all you know - as someone around you might be hiding what s/he really is, and considerng the kind of person you are, i do not really blame him/her!)
Anyway, and since you have the special capability of (re)producing of course through years and years of instense studying, I am definately not 'equal' to you!
what a laugh!
good night to all! :)
We tend to see leaders as role models, and hence we want them as much as we precieve a role model should be. The only coloured person that so far have contested a Maltese election (MEP), did not garner more than 1%. So I take it that the rest of the 20%, apart from naive, are hypocrital.
And then it is not that Euopean leaders are not mainstream in lifestyle, or are from different origins. You would be surprised with the survey results of Northern Ireland, had they not been 'buried' within UK statistics. Ask any Croatian whether they want a Serb prime minister. And you would not dare do such a survey in Zimbabwe.
Political multi-whatever is nothing to celebrate about. The net result is problems. And mental dilemma conflicts, as the US military psychiatrist. With deadly results.
We are ALL EQUAL irrespective of who we are attracted. The ability of reproduction is alive in most humans unless there is something wrong in the reproductive systems, meaning that homosexuals can have children (for example, Elton John) if they so desire. Also, just because someone has a heterosexual relationship to have children does not give him or her superiority of the rest.
@ Clifford Spiteri Cornish: I admire you, dude, for being so open about your sexuality. It takes guts - prosit - in Malta there is a luckily is a humanist portion of society that supports homosexuals and their right to equality on ALL COUNTS.
That is was I call racism against white people
So in fact in Malta there has already been (according to some commenters) a non-catholic PM and many non-white PM's.
By the way. people should not be proud or otherwise of their skin colour, it is something we are born with and cannot change - apart form making it temporarily darker in the sun.
As a great man once said, 'where they won't be judged on the colour of their skin, but on the content of their character'.
And judging by the content of some people's character, I am assuming they aren't hypocritical enough to take communion come sunday.
So rightly said Christian!!
A person's character is not colour of skin, sexual orientation, and subject to his religious inclination!!
Personally, I would hold my reservation that he/she be Maltese, born and bred in Malta (knows and experienced the fibre), of good morals, and to vow to truly give 100% towards the best of the country and its people......but other than that I won't give a hoot about anything else!!
Re the black people... maybe we should let them learn first. Have you ever thought that you're living a comfortable life at their expense? Where does oil come from? Where do most resources come from? After stealing them, turning them into slaves, rape them and depriving them from education, what do you expect from them?
Btw I'm not talking about illegal immigration here, I don't want to jump into another topic
Your comment was about tolerance. The word tolerant. Usually, this word is seen as a virtue, a good quality in an individual. Sometimes. But sometimes not. Depending on what it is that's tolerated. You're with me still Clifford? If a person, ANYONE, tells you that they tolerate your gayness (I'm assuming you're one of the boys in the band here), look them straight in the eye Clifford and tell them to go jump. Because nobody, AND I MEAN NOBODY, has the right to insult you by condescendingly telling you that they tolerate you in spite of loving a man.. Tell them judge instead two men butchering each other in a boxing-ring, to acclaim and applause by the multitude, and a big cheque deposited in their name at the bank. Anybody who feels smug and self-congratulatory by tolerating homosexuals would do well to keep what I just said in mind. There are certain things one does not need to leave Malta to learn. Reading a reasoned comment in the Times is as good as any University. And Clifford, don't forget the condoms at home, man.
A black young female non-catholic lesbian prime minister is very improbable for Malta. But the problem discovered here we have to face every day at work, at home, on the street, in the supermarket, on the football ground, in the sauna, in cinema, at a party, in a conference, etc.
Maybe we understand how important this survey and its result is and what we have to learn from it.
I hope we will learn to leave these bad qualities behind us (often caused by prejudices, exaggerations, non or half knowledge, or populistic glorifications) and meet our neighbours and judge them blind for their gender, race, age, sexual orientation, religion.
A stupid phrase like "These eu idiots have to justify their exorbitant salaries paid from our taxes with equally idiotic surveys." confirms the lack of understanding and ignorance that leads to intoleration, bigotry, racism and hatred at the end.
unbelievable
Prosit at being so open - I admire you. It takes courage to fight the stigmas that Maltese religion and society at large places in your way. I have friends who had similar experiences to you and I wish I had the wisdom I have today to have been able to support them better at a younger impressionable age.
So quickly are we to judge: I have only one question to most of you here - you speak of Catholicism, so, where is your Christian compassion and empathy?
i could care less if you're gay. i respect you as an individual but don't expect that me and you are equal. you're attractive to same sex and i'm attractive to opposite sex (female), you can't produce with same sex and i can with opposite sex, you rather see gay couples than straight couples and vice versa for me.
The majority of us are different shades of brown,
My point? Mr Obama, for instance, wouldn't have a chance to get a vote.
The Maltese judge strangers without knowing them. I'm sure you'd be surprised to know that sometimes, an atheist is holier then a Catholic in his deeds.
But then again, I should shut up and not "play god".
It is one thing to differ in opinions. Another thing entirely to base said opinions on someone's skin colour and sexual orientation. Tell me why exactly an intelligent, educated black lesbian with good and fresh ideas cannot run for PM or be involved in politics?
To dislike gays leads to intolerance, which leads to discrimination, which is illegal.
Society isn't expected to 'allow' people to be gay. Thank God, homosexuality is no longer illegal. It's expected to love and accept them, and hopefully in the future grant them equal rights. If we can't elect a gay PM, then hopefully one day this wonderful straight white Catholic female will fight for gay marriage, which I 00% support. Yes I am a flaming liberal, and proud of it.
I also noticed that you brought up Obama's birth certificate. That whole ridiculous 'birther' movement in the US has been slammed as racist and untruthful. He was born in Hawaii. He is a natural born American.
Can anyone have less understanding of what being gay entails?? Do we still live in a time where people think that being gay is a choice? Do people know what gay people have to go through to accept themselves, at a young age?
I surely didnt go through this stage in my life, only to be 31 and expecting a T Gauci to 'tolerate' me or 'accept' me.
Anyway, i am happy with my life as it is now, and if you, T Gauci, think you are better than anyone else, or are in a position to 'tolerate' anyone - think again!
I do not need or want your tolerance.
Igalea
Well said my friend,at last some one who sees the light, black is black,we should not be afraid to use the word,
Yes you are right, mass immigration was welcomed by the ruling governments,to lower wages,to deflate the average working mans, living conditions, now it is out of control, like a run away train, whos brakes have failed, the end result? carnage,
The Government of the U.K are at the helm of this train, and now, have no idea how to stop it,its gathering speed, eventually,it will crash and burn, taking what was once Great Britain, with it
(a) Its none of your business. Your suggestion only serves to illustrate just how narrow minded and intolerant, not to mention deluded, you are.
(b) I have in fact left. I left because I could no longer stand the maltese mentality. In malta I was a highly paid professional. Here I'm even better paid, have more personal freedom and I'm loving the multi cultural experience. I NEVER want to come back there. EVER. I am way better off, both from a standard of living point of view and from a quality of life point of view here than I was there. I actually feel physically sick whenever i visit my mother who still lives there.
I recommend moving away to all ambitious and freedom loving maltese, as long as you don't bring your hang ups with you.
One chap says how he hates these islands, as we are racist and homophobic.I say if you don't like ithere ...Leave.
I am well pleased to see your lack of validity in your reply. unfortunately multiculture will last for some period of time until when the rapid dominating culture takes over the minor culture. everyone knows what culture is taking over Europe, it's survival of the fittest.
@colin stanley
is that comment aimed at me ?. i think both of us share the same views. read my comments again
So according to you 'experts, it's not tolerated to dislike gays but it's tolerated to like gays ? you liberals are the real hypocrites here. you can say whatever you want but you censor, shout "racist and homophobic" to someone who differs from your views! - liberals double standards at its best . you should be thankful that you are allowed to be gay in a Christian country, i can't imagine what would happen to you if you had been born in Iraq, Afghanistan etc..this is eventually what Europe is going to be in a few more decades. have fun being what you want to be while you still have time then ADIOS multiculture and this and that.
It will be me canvassing the like of the courageous and charismatic Zahra Rahnavard wife of the allegedly defeated Iranian presidential candidate Hossein Mousavi. She holds a Ph.D in political science
The Iranian government ,that oppresses its people can only sustain itself with violence. We all witnessed when thousands took to Iranian streets. It was violence against women and homosexuals and others considered inferior. It isn't only permitted but justified.
In the midst of so much heat, Zahra urged students at a Teheran university to hold fast in their resistance.
Climbing to the roof top she said and shouted " God is Great ."
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was so undone by Zahra's power that he questioned whether her dictorate was legitimate.
What a brave woman. What a woman of valor.
@T.Gauci Sharia Law can never be introduced in European Countries because they are Secular in nature and therefore do not allow religious institutions to interfere with their legal systems (with the exception of Malta and Poland perhaps) there will be more colour in society and different mentalities which in turn will lead to growth and better understanding, if and on IF people like you start woking on their attitude!
Would you care to explain how "even in Malta people are racist on other maltese people just cos of politics. "?
I suggest you look up the word racist. Politics has nothing to do with it.
I am the brain-drain that someone further down mentioned. I am middle-aged so that's OK. But living and working abroad has made possible my refusal to believe in tooth-fairies. This is popularly known as atheism. Oh dear! Two to go. And as for my homosexuality - well, as popularly said, I am not proud. I am not proud because sexual orientation, any sexual orientation is neither here nor there. But I tell you one thing. I am certainly not ashamed which is what me and mine are expected to be, aren't we?! No way, Jose`! And of course I am working-class. Because my father worked for a living. As do doctors, lawyers, periti and all the other stuffed-shirts. So I guess that's me out of the running. Paradoxically I would run Malta very well indeed. Or I could be culture minister. I.know.a.lot.about.that. Or.education. I.know.about.that.at.least. Not.good.on.transport.though. Or.the.other.butch.aspects.of.running.a.country. Oh.well!.can't.win.them.all. I.am.long.gone.anyway.
@M. Vella - "I've no problem with X...but". "We should not discriminate against gay people...but they're not appropriate to run the country" - isn't that what you were trying to say? So non-heterosexual people are second-grade citizens then. Gay or straight is not about moral values but a state of being. You would know this well if you had gay people who are close to you. Or maybe you do, but they hide their orientation from you, given this attitude...
Unfortunately, Catholicism has not been capable of giving the people the right guidance and moral support. It needs to revise its policies and make religion something to look forward to for guidance, solace and advice. The Wind of Change never hit Malta realistically.
Dont forget to go to church and listen to God's word next sunday!!!
You will also absorb the Sharia Law from multiculturalism in a few years. what can i say ? enjoy what's left in North Utopia because you are going to regret it, mark my words.
Given how homogeneous the Maltese population is, though, it would be hard to imagine having a Prime Minister who would not come from that background. And look elsewhere in Europe: how many leaders are there that do not fit the mainstream? Even Tony Blair waited with his conversion from the Church of England to Catholicism until he had stepped down.
The only example that I can think of, where someone from a minority became leader of a European nation, is where a Georgian became leader of the Soviet Union (which was predominantly Russian). His name was Joseph Stalin.
Totally agree with you.
R.Degiorgio
They are black not dark skinned.
Political correctness like yours has brought the world and us in the dire situation that we are in.
If they are ashamed to be called what they are, why should they call us white?
Sexual orientation and taste are private matters. We need our politicians to be tough and rough to get the desired results.
I cannot write what I really want to tell you because the Times will rightly not allow me but rest assured that it will only happen over our dead bodies.
Hello? We've already had a non-Catholic Prime Minister.
Obama is half white and there's still a controversy regarding his birth certificate.
Malta must move away from the " I`ll see the minister for a job. After all I voted for him" culture. If not our children will have the same problems and thier only option will be to emigrate to earn a living. No change means no improvement.
malcolm tortell Isn't it true that such idiotic surveys are carried out by idiots to justify their fantastic salaried paid for through our taxes?
Isobel Mcgonigle Perfect argument
Robert Azzopardi No Robert, the eu idiots only fight for themselves at our expense. EU more than 22 million unemployed while allowing illegal immigrants in and wanting immigration because the capitalists want to lower wages and working conditions which are accepted by immigrants but are not acceptable to the native workers. Yes Robert, the eu idiots are in the pay of capitalists to squeeze the workers, but you can rest assured that there is going to be such a widespread revolution across the eu that the French and Russian revolutions will be nothing compared to it. As for a better standard of living we had a much better standard before we joined the cursed eu dictatorship.
Mike farrugia You bet they are.
Why do I say this? Well take the US president, a black man. Who would ever have imagined that the a US president would be black. This for a country notorious for racism. Well - it happened.
Same for Malta - it will happen, once a true leader with a dream and a lot charisma emerges. This person could black, Muslim, atheist, gay, Lesbian or whatever. As long as s/he is an inclusive Prime Minister with a passion for his/her people – we will one day have such a person lead us.
Notwithstanding the current sentiment that the survey in question portrays.
Anyway, its not going to happen, live with it !
Stephen Farrugia ( Sliema)
The proper word is 'dark skinned people'. And also..even in Malta people are racist on other maltese people just cos of politics. So your arguement it really dont make any sense. I hate ALL kind of racism. I am not sayin that i excuse any dark skinned people who are racist with others. ALL kind of racism should be condemned!
of course Blacks can be racist too, towards whites, asians, hispanics, and other blacks too. But since when do two wrongs make a right???
As a predominantly Catholic country, the leader of the country should have at least the same moral values as the majority of the island.
Having said that, it is important that no discrimination takes place towards the gay community.
Your comments stink of homphobia....... religious intolerance.
@ Brian Farrugia sorry to disappoint you Brian but I live up North in "Europa Utopia" as you call it, I'm still here and loving it, I learn each day from multiculturalism, the things you absorb from other cultures enriches you not the opposite and safety is relative, I could give you an endless list on why Malta is also usafe. Word of advice, upon your mind and learn from others not fear and dislike what you dont know or perhaps fail to understand.
@Joss Galea please let's not take American policy and politics as a blueprint, I mean we are talking about the same country that has Arnold (Conan) Schwarzenegger as the Governator of California. ps American Christian Fundamentalism is as bad as Islamic fundamentalism.
@Igalea these EU idiots also fight for your rights and try to ensure that you and the 500m others reach a sustainable standard of living
@ J farrugia - These surveys are NOT stupidies / imbecillitajiet, as you so eloquently put it ! These surveys highlight a growing and serious problem of racism, homphobia and sexism in Malta.
Malta is stuck in a medieval timewarp, with a vast majority of people blinkered by their prejudices. No wonder Malta is suffering from a serious brain drain, when its educated professionals are leaving the rock to pastures new, where they can get on wihttheir lives, in a less fundamentalist environment, of the so-called Maltese mentality..... u jien kont wiehed minnhom... kont xbajt bl-injoranza u l-idejat estremi li hemm go Malta, li fl-ahhar tlaqt... and am glad I did !
Prosit tal-kumment. Ahna l-Maltin ghandna ghalxiex inkunu kburin li ahna l-iktar pajjiz kattoliku fid-dinja. Min ma jogbux jmur Amsterdam jew postijiet ohra fejn ihallu dawn l-affarijiet. Liberlalizmu qieghed joqtol il-valuri kollha. U nahseb ukoll li PM, mara jew ragel, ghandu jkun straight, Malti u Kattoliku!
That's was obviously a sarcastic comment from my side...
What does it matter if ANYONE not just a woman to be of different religion, race and sexual preference? Don't we all have minds to think with?
And to those who don't accept women in politics and other places: Woman should be treated equally and don't think that a woman is incapable of politics. Ok, the majority of Maltese politicians are in fact men, but think about it twice. The women in the parliament are brilliant! I think that the younger generation of women keep holding back when they have a choice for jobs. Such comments really make them do so.
JAAQQQQQ...pajjiz tal ipokriti u razzisti. This country simply disgust me...the older I get the more unfortunately I hate it!!!!
The way things are,in Britain, this looks like a reality,
Brian, you are so right my friend, could not agree more,
A society of people from all different, cultures, religions,is being forced on the people of Europe,it has been proved time after time,it is not working, after all,you would not put a Pride of Lions, together, with a Herd of Elephants, and expect them to live in harmony
I am baffled about how the Germans, French etc can go about celebrating the fll of one wall while at the same time re-inforcing another in Malta, Italy and Spain. Are we to continue being their border guards?
The mistake is when people discriminate against the individuals sexual tendancies, age and sex. Whether the person is gay or not does not mean a thing, whether it is male or female does not either, nor age.
My only objection would be if the person weren't catholic. Though I am far from being a religious fanatic, I believe that a catholic PM would be extremely important to the countries religious culture. There is nothing wrong with this and perfectly normal.
You can join them if you don't like it.
Kevin Phillips
But he has to be an American.
Switch to decaff or go easy on the insults. You do your cause, such as it is, no good!
As for whether one looks at all Maltese or gender ... if the person speaks excellent Maltese and was born and raised in Malta I do not think that it would make any difference in the long run. Of course we are all annoyed at this sudden influx on immigrants. I think what most people would be worried about is that had such a person to become prime minister s/he would reduce the barriers already in place allowing more in. And by that lets read from much poorer countries. I wuld rate Albania and Moldova with that list as much as Nigeria even if ironicall the latter is actually much richer but population wise tiny.
Misplaced as this fear may be (since we all know we are already over crowded and therefore no sane pm would do something like that) I do not think that this fear is unjustified at all. Fear after all is a healthy and natural instintic that ensures ones safety. tbc
Only one American president was catholic!! Kennedy.
You are joking aren't you; about a US president having to be catholic?
That is what I call tolerance! The EU is more permissive, rather than tolerant!
The Maltese see the real dangers of the forced multicult. As I said, go north for your eye opener.
