Poppy Appeal funds remain in Malta

Remembrance Sunday commemorates the promise our forefathers made of "We shall remember". This unfortunately has somewhat waned. In recent years some Maltese have lost the message behind the Poppy Appeal. In Malta it used to mean so much. I vividly remember growing up in the 1950s where we all wore our poppy with pride.
I think the main issue with the local public is the fact that very few realise that all the money collected here, on behalf of the British Legion, actually remains in Malta and in actual fact Britain supplements it. It is fair to say that maybe this fact has not been clarified enough in recent years.
I compliment The Times for the article Poppy Day Appeal (November 6), however it overlooked the fact that monies collected stay here. This is very much an appeal under the hospices of the British Legion UK but for the benefit of the Malta Branch of the British Legion and its local ex-serviceman and dependants who need assistance.

I go to our Cenotaph every year on Remembrance Sunday and am saddened every time by the inevitable dwindling number of veterans but moreso by the careless lack of Maltese citizens present to honour those who faught fascism and nazism, who for our tomorrow they gave their today. Shame!
On another note could someone from the British Legion update Wikipedia, as there is no Malta entry?

thank you and well done to all those who meticulously organise and partake in Remembrance Sunday

I was just saying to myself how sad it is that unless your in sliema or valletta you see very few people wearing a poppy. Why is this i wonder, are kids taught at school especially this time of year what went on in ww1 &ww2??? do they know the meaning of the poppy, i suggest them watching a few documentaries on the history channel.
Speaking to a few veterans can open up your mind, shake there hand and say thankyou for your service.
And finally tommorrow on the11 hour (12pm our time) 11 day of the 11 month pause for a moment and remember
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."
