The intrepid reporter who wrote that recent very interesting article Turn Down That Racket! observed that the "Malta Environment and Planning Authority is still compiling noise data about major roads, airports and agglomerations..."
May I ask our dearest Mepa, while they're at it, not to leave out the minor roads and other supposedly quieter residential areas - because at times the decibel count must be higher here than at the airport.
When drawing up the noise map for Malta, please:
1. follow the private buses and mini buses while these are doing the school run - before every stop, when picking (6.45 to 8 a.m.) and delivering (2-4 p.m.), they blare out their horns to inform mums, dads, grandparents and the entire neighbourhood that the school transport has arrived;
2. follow the gas cylinder delivery trucks - the cacophony, from very early in the morning till forever, caused by the incessant playing of their air horns to announce their presence, is totally unbearable;
3. follow the local bread-man - every stop, a loud long series of blasts on his horn to inform of his arrival.
Where I live, because of the amount of horn-tooting that goes on, it's like World Cup final day every day. If it wasn't so tragic, it would probably be funny.
