Embellishment, investment and historic projects
A total €5.2 million have been allocated for various embellishment projects around Malta.
Finance Minister Tonio Fenech said during the Budget speech that these include St George’s Square in Valletta, St George’s Bay promenade, the National Park at the Salini, and the fourth enlargement of the National Park at Ta’ Qali.
Mr Fenech said that in the coming weeks, a number of investment projects would be made with an investment of about €80 million, including the restoration of the bastions, the embellishment of Sliema and Qawra coastlines, a new promenade in St Paul’s Bay, a garden and heritage trail in Pembroke, and a visitor attraction in Qawra.
The government is also budgeting €9.7 million for historic projects, including the restoration of Auberge de Castille, the Presidential Palace, the area known as the Collacchio in Vittoriosa, and that of the Wignacourt fountain in Saqqajja Hill.

Well done for targetting the collachio in Birgu. This is a living gem in a historic city. I hope that the resoration will include the otherwise dilapidated Knight's Hall and Bishop's Palace. An exhibition on the Knights of St John would be fantastic at these sites. It's also good news that funds are being aimed at Fort St Angelo though the amounts appear small given the problems. A just reward for the people of Birgu and the hard working council.
