The €16.31 levy on credit cards is being removed. This will reduce government revenue by €2 million a year and 120,000 people are expected to benefit.

Finance Minister Tonio Fenech said the government’s fiscal policy was not the increase of tax.

Burdens but for this to be possible, everyone had to be convinced the government must not give subsidies where these were not necessary.

The government will be taking measures to restrict expenditure and to strengthen the enforcement of fiscal laws.
