Heritage to benefit from budget - FAA

Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar welcomed the importance the Budget gave heritage in this Budget, as could be seen by the funds allocated to the restoration of the Palace, the Birgu collacchio, the Cittadella and various other heritage sites in Malta and Gozo.

FAA said the heritage and environment group is especially gratified that funds were earmarked for the ongoing restoration of the bastions and the restoration of Fort St Angelo, as well as grants for maintenance works on scheduled properties as FAA repeatedly called for.

The announcement that registration tax wasto be waived for Euro 4 and 5 commercial vehicles should greatly contribute to the environmental upgrading of Malta’s commercial fleets which included a high percentage of Malta’s more polluting vehicles.

Incentives to public transport operators to attract more users made sound commercial and environmental sense in encouraging the public to switch to public transport and reduce the number of cars on the road.

I remember that last year FAA rightly so had issued a similar statement when in the budget the same minister had stated that a 2500 Euro grant was to be given to those restoring the facades of their buildings. However this budget proposal never materialised in the past year.

Let's hope this time will be a different story!

Well done Tonio Fenech for investing heavily in our culture – this will create jobs in the short term, get more tourists...... we have a lovely country now it will be up to us to take care of it!
