Malta marks Remembrance Sunday

The fallen of the world wars were remembered today in Remembrance Sunday commemorations in Valletta.

The President and the Prime Minister led the congregation at Pontifical Mass at St John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta, which was followed by wreath-laying at the Cenotaph in Floriana.

The ceremony started with a parade by the AFM down Republic Street to St John's Square, where a Guard of Honour formed up and according salutes on the arrival of AFM commander Brig Carmel Vassallo, the Prime Minister and the President.

In Floriana the President inspected a Guard of Honour of ex-servicemen before laying his wreath on the war memorial to recall the civilians and servicemen killed in the wars.

Flowers were also laid, by among others, the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and PL deputy leader Anglu Farrugia. PL leader Joseph Muscat attended the Mass.
