Malta marks Remembrance Sunday
The fallen of the world wars were remembered today in Remembrance Sunday commemorations in Valletta.
The President and the Prime Minister led the congregation at Pontifical Mass at St John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta, which was followed by wreath-laying at the Cenotaph in Floriana.
The ceremony started with a parade by the AFM down Republic Street to St John's Square, where a Guard of Honour formed up and according salutes on the arrival of AFM commander Brig Carmel Vassallo, the Prime Minister and the President.
In Floriana the President inspected a Guard of Honour of ex-servicemen before laying his wreath on the war memorial to recall the civilians and servicemen killed in the wars.
Flowers were also laid, by among others, the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and PL deputy leader Anglu Farrugia. PL leader Joseph Muscat attended the Mass.

I was priveleged to be part of the parade and walk with my mother,son and father who i pushed in a wheelchair. My father was moved to tears at the kindness of members of the British Legion (malta) Branch to allow us to be included and also because of the memories it envoked. He wore his medals with pride and felt very humbled when he was stopped on numerous occassions by members of the public to shake his hand and to say thankyou for all that he and his fellow comrades had done. What a wonderful day to have shared with my family and the wonderful people of Malta. Thankyou

As per previous comments a very well done to the Maltese Armed Forces and the Police Force for being so smart.
But one must not forget the Sea Cadets and Marine Cadets who also take part in this event every year with so much pride. The smartness is always impeccable and the standard of dress is at all times at its best. Bravo Zulu to all and KEEP IT UP!!!

"Have the Maltese lost their pride?"
We're talking about the same people who go out with English, Italian and Brazilian flags when there's football, right?
Many Maltese I've met are acutely aware that this is a small country, or think that the Netherlands are big (a view not generally shared by the Dutch), or seem genuinely surprised that I prefer it here, and not just because of the weather or the food. Much to my bafflement, some of them even thought that Malta should never have become independent.
Not that I'm particularly patriotic, but I would never wave a different national flag unless forced at gunpoint.

I enjoyed viewing this clip immensely.
The military band sounded very good. The only downer is the wrong Flag….
Also would someone please refer me to the reason why this remembrance doesn’t take place on 11 November?

I was there and never felt so proud to see our army and police looking so smart and the band sounding so note perfect. It was a very moving ceremony marred only by the absence of Dr. Muscat of the PL. and the lack of Maltese attendance. Why does it have to be mainly British people and other foreigners to attend such pride inspiring occasions. Have the Maltese lost their pride??????

Remembrance also serves to remind ourselves that our little precious islands are of no threat to any other nation. Let us all take PRIDE in this and love the Maltese islands and our identity even more.
