Karozzini problems to be discussed
Two representatives from the World Association for Transport Animal Welfare and Studies will be in Malta this week to look into the problems faced by karozzini horses. The association believes the horses should be provided with shelter that covers their entire bodies while they wait for custom during the hot summer months.
Water, hygiene and other factors will also be discussed.

I believe that by now the maltese government should be taking care of this issue. Horses should be provided with full covering shelters , fresh water and bins. This would help both horses and owners.

I am really happy that finally something seems to be done to help these abused animals.
I worked for many years in Valletta so, I could see exactly how these horses live....or exist.
These horses are kept in the sun during the hot months, since there is not enough shade for them all. I have seen many times, there owners, beat them, and treating them badly. They are forced to stay long hours walking around narrow and slippery streets in Valletta. (everyone living/working in Valletta)knows the conditions of these streets)
I really hope that the people who are coming to do the study, see exactly the negligace by which these animals are being treated. And I would like to invite all tourist to not use these rides, if they love animals......and anyway you will be ripped off!!

For one thing, they should discuss the disgusting practice of leaving the horses's remnants splashed all over the streets. It is inconceivable to see & smell horse excrements at the port area, where 1000's of cruise liner tourists land! H1 n1? Campaigns to wash hands regularly? What about this filth on our roads? Are we in the 21st century? Each cruise liner berth provides thousands of Euros to karozzini drivers and their families. Can't they at least be little bit more civil and clean up these deplorable messes and CLEAN UP! Are the authorities blind or are we living in a spineless society - where certain people do what they like and what they please? Ministry of Health, Min.of Environment, PS of Tourism, Min of Educ and th rest of the whole lot.............TAKE NOTE! Vera tal-Misthija.

is the discussion going to include about the rights of the horses on the road? Is it the time to discuss wheatear the horses should be keept driven on roads? We know that when a horse loose its jockeys control and an accident occure, who takes the responsabilty? An uninsured car is dangerous on the road, so what about a horse? We have pets at home and we do love them ,so this is not because we dont like pets. Its time that horses should be transported in wagon?
