Let us put religion aside for a moment. We have the Crucified because there was a court presided over by Pontius Pilate. This court pronounced the sentence: "I find no case against him". Strangely enough, the corollary to this very clear declaration of innocence was: "Pilate then had Jesus taken away and scourged". After that, Pilate handed him over to the crowd to be crucified.

We have the Crucified because a court turned itself from a court of justice to a court led by public opinion, or by what today is very politely called 'political correctness'. History repeats itself. The Crucified was recently summoned again to court. Political correctness again prevailed. This time, it is not He who is going to suffer directly.
