Nappy rash, also known as nappy dermatitis, is the most common rash in infants before they are toilet trained. While there are a variety of factors that can contribute to nappy rash, research shows the most common cause is excessive moisture against the baby's skin.

Changing baby should be no more frequent with reusable nappies. However, due to the fact that the nappies are natural and no chemicals are used to absorb moisture, parents will be aware when their baby's nappy is wet and therefore when baby needs to be changed.

Many parents leave disposable nappies on their baby for too long as baby often does not feel wet. When the ammonia in urine mixes with the plastic in disposable nappies, the skin does not get a chance to breathe, bacteria can grow, thus increasing the risk of nappy rash.

More parents are opting for reusable nappies as an alternative to chemicals and plastics.

Market leader Bambino Mio has manufactured a two-piece nappy system that is better for baby and better for parents. Made of 100 per cent cotton, the Mio nappy is soft on baby's skin and helps it breathe naturally.

The nappy is simply placed in the waterproof cover and fastened around baby's tummy using Velcro style fasteners.

Products in the Bambino Mio range include Mio nappies, Mio soft waterproof nappy covers, an environmentally safe nappy cleanser, biodegradable nappy liners, swim nappies, training pants, potties, nappy buckets and laundry bags.

The nappies are exclusively available from Little People in San Ġwann. Call 2144 5654 or visit www.littlepeople.com.mt.
