The UHM has announced agreement with the Social Policy Ministry on long-running disputes involving Nursing Aides, Health Assistants, Care Workers, Assistant Care Workers and Paramedic Aides in the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD),the Medical Imaging Department (MID) and health centres.

The disputes were mainly over the payment of allowances and staff meals. The union had called industrial action over the past months to press its case.

In terms of the agreement, workers who had to date not benefited from an annual allowance of €1,150 under a previous agreement would become eligible for the allowance once they are given practical training and start performing nurse related activities as their primary duties.

CSSD and Paramedic Aides Trainees are to receive staff meals or allowances.

The union thanked Social Policy Minister John Dalli for his intervention.
