Air Malta and the Italian airline Meridiana have signed a code sharing agreement to strengthen the links between Malta and Italy.

The agreement will allow the airlines to show the two airline codes on flights between Malta and Catania. It also means Meridiana will be able to offer flights from Reggio Calabria to Olbia and Cagliari, with a stopover in Fiumicino airport in Rome.

The flight from Reggio to Rome will be operated by Air Malta while the onward connection will be by Meridiana. The agreement also means Air Malta and Meridiana are now in a position to offer their clients flights to Bologna and Turin via Catania and Cagliari and Olbia via Fiumicino.

Meridiana CEO Gianni Rossi said that through the agreement, Meridiana would be able to offer more flights to Italian clients wishing to travel to Malta.

Air Malta CEO Joe Cappello added that the agreement gave the airline the opportunity to offer daily connectivity to popular Italian cities, while developing new catchment areas for inbound tourism from Italy.
