I would like to congratulate former Nationalist minister Jesmond Mugliett for having shown his deep concern in Parliament to the Prime Minister about the black dust issue through his moving demand for a serious reply regarding a problem about which the citizens of the south deserve better for their own and their own children's well being, including his own, and that they should not continue to suffer from this problem. Although this might have been played down media wise, it was this plea that triggered the PM's first ever response on this issue in the House of Representatives.
I would equally like to congratulate my colleague from the government side, Jean Pierre Farrugia, for having made it clear that as far as the noxious smells were concerned in Marsa, the government and Mepa must decide and that people who, like his family have lived in the area for decades are anxious to see their vulnerability to air pollutants effectively and seriously addressed.
The deep concern of these Nationalist backbenchers merely goes to prove that not only are Nationalist MPs seriously concerned about the government's inaction and lack of sensitivity on these important environmental health hazards but also that, when the PL raised these issues both in the House and beyond, it merely did so out of respect for the national interest rather than out of any partisan concerns.
