Callous thieves stole a widower's car with his pet dog inside as he tended his wife's grave.

The 75-year-old man, from Great Barr, Birmingham, went to lay flowers on the grave at Streetly Crematorium, Walsall last Tuesday in the afternoon.

But when he returned 15 minutes later, only shards of glass were left where his car had been. Luckily, after a search by police the Rover Maestro, with his 12-year-old Jack Russell Tess inside, was found in nearby Erdington.

Pc Mark Allwood, from the Streetly and Pheasey neighbourhood policing team, said: "We thank the public and the media for their help with this appeal.

"We continue to investigate the incident and appeal for anyone with information about the offenders to come forward."
