Opera House ruins foundations being tested
Excavation works at the Old Opera House site in Valletta to test its foundations in preparation for the Renzo Piano project started yesterday.
Workers dug up parts of the ruins to investigate the state of the foundations using heavy equipment.
The work had to be stopped because the vibrations dislodged a number of small stones that fell from a culvert into Yellow Garage, the parking area situated below the ruins.
No damage was caused, a government spokesman said.

What should be done to stop this project from ruining our city is to organise a fund account and quickly raise money to take MEPA to court for allowing what is so obvious a breach of regulations regarding building permits. I am so appalled that even though MEPA is so aware of the sensitivity of this project its name together with the Prime Minister will lose even more credibility for who and what they are. If those, who are many, really want to do something about it, get off you backsides and take legal action as a nation ignored, and if the court also goes in favour of the project, then go to the European Court for Human Rights. Its not the first time that the government was overruled by ECHR. Wake up guys before it`s too late.

Who cares that a good number of people objected to this project – in lieu of a multifunctional cultural hub we are having a roofless theatre moreover, a new parliament building is going to be erected when sadly Fort St. Angelo had to be closed down because of the state it is in - what a waste of funds. So we are supposed to proudly show off our Piano design whilst our main Forts are in a pitiful state?!

So i guess this means that all those who objected to this project are being completely ignored!!

Is this why Dr. Gonzi brought any so-called 'Consultation' on his pet project to an end ? - A fait acompli, no objections entertained ? - It seems that he is in a hurry to get everything signed-off and the construction work under way before the next election.
Can it be that Dr. Gonzi so shielded from public opinion that he is unaware of the opposition to this project ? Or is this demonstration of how to stifle democracy nothing more than a thinly disguised way of providing the Golden Boys in the construction industry with a state-aided crutch ? ( in order to secure jobs, of course ). Whatever the case, it looks as if Gonzi is going to get his monument to self-glorification and the public is to be rewarded with a largely useless theatre !
In the meantime, the opposition is saying and doing what ...................?
