Dredging of Salina canal completed
Resources Minister George Pullicino inspected the Salina project works this morning.
Dredging of the seawater canal at Salina has been completed, enabling the water to circulate around the salt pans and removing the stench of stagnant water, the Resources Ministry said.
The clean-up was part of a €250,000 project which also included the rehabilitation of a 90-metre long wall, built by the Knights, which had been damaged by bad weather.
The 835-metre long canal, which has a depth of 1.5 metres had been almost totally blocked by debris - the ministry workers removed some 10,000 tons of material. Maintenance work will now be carried out regularly to prevent repeat blockage, the ministry said.
The project will also include the restoration of the salt pens and the huts where salt is processed and packed. The nearby salt marsh will also be rehabilitated.
The area is a candidate for Natura 2000 classification.

Well done.
Why should we always critisize ?
When a job is done well we should say so.
Besides, the surroundings have been improved by the planting of trees and a landscaped area in the vicinity.

Hats off to the Hon. Minister for this project which has cause d such a stench for quite a number of years. Thanks to the workers involved in this project for their abilities and enduring the not so much hygenic conditions.
It is now time to complete the project to the neighbour. Water coming down from Wardija.
There need to be a wide canal and not a simple trench that has been recently cleaned. The end part of it is complete but not the entrance through Burmarrad Road.

Well done,
The wooden rooms (halls) near the saltpans can be turned to an industrial agriculture museum. We can use small Maltese boats to tour around, like gondolas in Vienna

Deo gratias! I thought this project was a never-ending story. Now let's see if the whole idea works.
