Air Malta links up with Meridiana
Air Malta has reached a code-sharing agreement with Italian airline Meridiana, allowing the airlines to show both airline codes on flights operated between Malta and Catania, and an opportunity for Meridiana to offer flights from Reggio Calabria to Olbia and Cagliari, with a stopover in Rome Fiumicino. The flight from Reggio to Rome will be operated by Air Malta while the onward connection will be operated by Meridiana.
Air Malta said the airlines were now in a position to offer their clients flights connecting Malta to Bologna and Turin, via Catania and to Cagliari and Olbia via Rome Fiumicino.
Gianni Rossi, Chief Executive Office of Meridiana, commented, “Thanks to this codeshare agreement, Meridiana will be able to offer more flights to the Italian clients who would like to travel to Malta. The opening up of opportunities through this agreement with Air Malta, are in-line with the current policy of growth of Meridiana, which is placing great emphasis on agreements with prestigious European and non-European airline,
Joe Cappello, Chief Executive of Air Malta said the agreement gave give Air Malta the opportunity to offer daily connectivity to popular Italian cities, whilst developing new catchment areas for inbound tourism from Italy.

Excellent news. Now we have practically all the Italian peninsula covered on one ticket.

Pity that they did not put in place a similar arrangement with the same airline for flights to Milano Linate...would have been quite convenient. Whilst yes AirMalta has a connection linking the island to Milan, the airport used is Malpensa almost an hour away from the city centre. Linate is much, much more convenient especially for those travelling for business purposes.
