Cooler, drier October
October was slightly cooler and drier than average, according to the meteorological office.
Official figures show that, at 20.2oC, October was an average 0.5oC cooler than the norm,. The maximum temperature was 26.6°C and the lowest was 11.8°C.
The average sea surface temperature was 23.5°C, wind speed averaged 7.7 knots and humidity reached 75 per cent. There were three days of thunderstorms - three days less than the average experienced during October over the past 30 years. The stormiest October was in 1962 with 12 thunderstorm days.
The total rainfall was 61.2 millimetres.

The US mainland experienced a lower than average October temperature too, mainland Europe too, in continuation to the near record or record temperature of last winter months, including Malta which had 3 consecutive months of lower than average temperatures.. Previous winters saw record lows in south America, Mongolia, China, snow in Saudi Arabia, children dying of extreme cold in Peru. One swallow does not a winter make, but here there are too many swallows......
