Title favourites claim majority win
Long-term leaders okmalta.com must now be considered as leading favourites for the league title after claiming a 6-2 victory over big guns Fina, who are now fourth. okmalta.com are still three points ahead of Globalair Travel who also bagged six points in their match against Pharmavet, and third-placed Ramis also took six from their confrontation with Turu’s Knights.
There were two 100 per cent wins in week 14, the first for Salitos against bottom team Bank of Valletta and the other for HSBC against The Clan.
okmalta.com took on Fina who are lacking in substance and firepower this season. It was Fina who took the early advantage with a 738-800 win in game one but the second of the set fell to okmalta.com, 813-755. The third game turned out to be a one-sided affair, okmalta.com winning it 881-788 for the match.
Second-placed Globalair Travel were also two points in arrears after narrowly losing the opening game 790-782 against Pharmavet.
Globalair levelled the score in a tight game – 758-760.
Again it was anybody’s match in the all-important third, but Globalair Travel clinched it with a little more ease, the 721-783 win handing them the 6-2 victory.
There were another six points for Ramis against Turu’s Knights, the victory allowing them to overtake Fina and go third. Yet again, it was the eventual winners who lost the initial game, the Knights claiming it by just three pins, 847-850.
Ramis then fired back with the game of the night to take the second 905-762. Ramis were the better, more consistent side and were rewarded with the match thanks to an 858-777 clincher.
Standings: okmalta.com 86; Globalair Travel 83; Ramis 77; Fina 76; Turu’s Knights 55; PharmaVet 52; HSBC 48; Salitos 47; The Clan 25; Bank of Valletta 12.
Bowlers of the week: Sue Abela (Fina) 669; Kenneth Arpa (Ramis) 729.
