Environmental permitting: General binding rules (7)

GBR 11 - Chemicals, fuels and gases group

Small-scale enterprises involved in the storage and wholesaling of fuels and chemicals and in the preparation of chemical-based products such as paints, soaps, perfumes, etc. are regulated through this general binding rule. Conditions set out in this GBR include provisions on the storage of hazardous and toxic chemicals, waste management, storage and disposal of such chemicals, effluent discharges and emissions of toxic fumes into the atmosphere.

GBR 12 & 13 - Waste carriers and waste brokers group

The environmental conditions set out in these GBRs are aimed at improving the environmental performance of certain activities involved in the management of waste generated by other enterprises. These GBRs define a number of environmental guidelines for waste carriers and waste brokers to try and limit, as much as possible, any damages to the environment.

These proposed GBRs have been drawn up by Mepa with the aim of assisting small-scale businesses to achieve compliance with national environmental laws while avoiding excessive administrative burden. Both the proposed GBRs and guidance notes are being made available on the Mepa website www.mepa.org.mt/gbrs. Comments can be sent to the authority via e-mail at gbr@mepa.org.mt by not later than December 7.
