Two held up on their way to bank cash machine

Around €4,300 was stolen from a man and a woman as they were on their way to deposit money at the HSBC cash machine in Merchants Street, Valletta, last night.

The incident took place at around 8 p.m. in St John's Street, corner with Merchants Street. Police said a shot was fired by the robbers, who were wearing helmets, before they fled on a motorbike. Police sources said the two victims were depositing money on behalf of a company.

Nobody was injured though the woman had to be treated for shock. The area was cordoned off after the incident.

Duty magistrate Edwina Grima held an onsite inquiry. Police are investigating.
