Urgent need to address unemployment

Gozo Bishop Mario Grech last Wednesday called on the government, the social partners and the private sector to urgently address the issue of unemployment in Gozo.
Speaking during Mass in Victoria to mark Gozo Day, Mgr Grech said the issue must be on the national agenda on par with other social matters. He said families were suffering due to unemployment.
Gozo Day was also commemorated at Independence Square, Victoria. Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono, primary and secondary schoolchildren and members of the Circolo Gozitano placed flowers at the foot of the monument of archpriest Saverio Cassar.
In 1798, Fr Cassar led the uprising of the Gozitans against the French forces, who were crushing their rights and traditions.

The bishop is right on the mark on the unemployment issue. I have written a few times as well as recentlyl as a month ago in one of these comment sections indicating that Gozo need jobs and no more talk which comes to nothing. Gozitans still have to opt to go to Malta for their livelihood or still emigrate. WE are still seeing our young having to emigrate because opportunities are lacking. Gozitans need jobs to be created and not just menial jobs. I ask, where are the funds from the EU. Why isn't Gozo benefiting from these funds. Yes, the road from Mgarr to Dwejra was fixed, but what else has been done. Also, every feasible tourist project is shot down because everyone wants to keep gozo in a niche. You can expand tourist facilities without hurting the envrionment. Gozitans need to come together from all walks of lives, have a good discussion as to what is good for Gozo and force implementation. Gozo has a lot of potential if it's expands it tourist base and also create an air link. Gozo had it much better in past years, but it has fallen behind in the past 10 years
