Top international rock musicians wowed the audience at two fund-raising concerts organised by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation to mark its 25th anniversary.
The foundation was established in 1983 by leaders of the music industry. One of its functions is "to recognise the contribution of those who have had a significant impact on the evolution, development and perpetuation of rock and roll", according to their mission statement. The concerts held at Madison Square Garden, New York, featured, among others, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Stevie Wonder, Simon and Garfunkel, Paul Simon and 1970s trio David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash, on Thursday Yesterday's line-up featured U2, Aretha Franklin, Eric Clapton and Metallica.
All these artistes were inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, some of them more than once like Eric Clapton who was inducted for the third time in 2000.
