Here we go again: A beautiful piece of open land falling under the construction hatchet. I understand that a building application has already been submitted to Mepa.
This piece of pristine land is called Tabrag, and at one time it was designated as a green area (belonging to the government), but in the last few years it fell into the hands of a private party. I wonder if this piece of land is still designated as a green area. It is up to Mepa to approve or reject the application to build upon and ruin this piece of land. This land is situated near Kortin and as can be seen in the picture, it would be a shame to ruin it. If the building plans are approved, it will ruin the rubble walls and the carob trees (which, by the way, are over 50 years old and are to be protected).
For those who are curious and want to see this land, from Main Street in Mellieħa turn into Kortin Street, in front of the old Belleview building and the land is situated between Kortin Street, and Mario De Vasi Street.
It would be a shame to lose this piece of open land to construction and, since there are so many empty apartments in Mellieħa already, why build more? I hope Mepa takes a good look at this land before granting any building permits. The Mellieħa local council and the NGOs can also help stop this unnecessary destruction.
