Recently, I bought a laptop and I paid for it by cheque. I wrote the cheque in Maltese and handed it to the Maltese salesgirl who was in charge of the cash. She looked at the cheque and when she noticed it was written in Maltese she blurted out, "Oh! You've written the cheque in Maltese! Are you sure it can be cashed? Let me go and check with my superiors".
It's unbelievable how we still come across these pitiful insults towards our dear native language.
