Returning home from a holiday in Malta recently, I experienced a fiasco at check-in at Malta International Airport. Six flights to different European destinations being simultaneously checked through only four desks while the remaining 21 desks stood idle. The resulting shambles spilled well out onto the pavement and tempers were fraying badly. No effort was made to take control of the situation.

The parting impression of a place will probably be the lasting impression and I suspect that there were tourists in that throng who were thinking "Maybe we will go somewhere else next year where we are not treated like cattle".

I'm sure that the management will say that it was a one-off incident. Depressingly, I had a very similar experience in July of this year.

I have been coming to Malta for many years and I will continue to do so as I have a deep affection for the islands and the people but I say to the airport management, you have a beautiful and impressive new terminal to be proud of but your attitude to customer service and well-being leaves much to be desired.
