After last week’s 1-0 win on the CSKA Moscow artificial turf pitch at the Luzhniki Stadium, Manchester United went on to equal Ajax Amsterdam’s away record (1994-1997) of 14 matches without defeat in Champions League era.
United manager Alex Ferguson hailed the feat and said it showed great maturity from his side to win matches of that type.
“There is a way of playing away from home in Europe and I think you saw that (against CSKA),” he said.
“We showed patience and kept good possession and I think that was the key factor.”
Thanks to that victory in Russia, United now have nine points from three matches and are in pole position for a place in the knock-out phase of the competition.
Since that match, CSKA Moscow sacked coach Juande Ramos, the former manager at Tottenham Hotspur.
