Neil Agius and Andrea Agius have just taken part in the British Masters and Senior Age Groups Championships in Sheffield, England.

Both Malta swimmers left their mark after breaking 11 records on short course besides establishing a new mark in 800m freestyle.

Neil Agius took part in the 50m back and erased the previous record held by Christian Gialanze of 29.36 since March 1996. Agius placed eighth overall in 29.23.

He stayed on the record groove in 1,500m free, finishing third overall and cancelling the record held by Valhmor Medati (20.14.20 – Jan. 1992) when he clocked 17.14.77.

Neil Agius also set new national short course records over 100m, 200m and 400m (all freestyle) when he clocked 54.07, 1.57.10 and 4.04.96 respectively.

In the 800m race, Neil Agius clocked 8.44.20 before cancelling the 100m butterfly record, previously established by Robert Micallef, when clocking 1.00.30. In these events, Agius won gold in the 400m free, silver in 800m and bronze in the 200m free and 100m IM.

In the 100m IM, Andrea Agius finished second overall and registered a new national record of 1.00.79. He also broke the Malta record in 100m breast (1.07.10).

He also erased the 50m and 200m breast records, held previously by Daniel Galea, when he clocked 30.23 and 2.30.07 respectively. He also equalled the 50 free record of 24.96.

Neil and Andrea participated in this competition with the Maxwell Swimming Team thanks to the arrangements made through their colleague Steven Slee.

In fact, Slee, together with Neil and Andrea, swam the 4x50m medley and finished second. Maxwell were third in the 4x50m free.
