Environmental permitting: General binding rules (5)
GBR No. 7 - Rubber, plastics, glass and ceramics group
GBR No.7 stipulates environmental conditions aimed at regulating the environmental performance of enterprises manufacturing various rubber, plastic, glass, ceramic and other mineral products. This GBR sets out conditions related to toxic fumes and gases arising from the installation plant and/or generators/boilers on site, together with litter and waste management.
GBR No. 8 - Printing services group
The provisions set out in the Printing Services GBR are specifically drafted to regulate SMEs involved in the printing of books, magazines newspapers, postcards and similar materials. The main environmental issues arising at printing presses and which have been addressed in this GBR include air emissions, waste management, effluent discharges and storage of material (either raw or waste). These proposed general binding rules (GBRs) have been drawn up by Mepa with the aim of assisting small-scale businesses to achieve compliance with national environmental laws while avoiding excessive administrative burden.
Both the proposed GBRs and Guidance Notes are being made available on the Mepa website www.mepa.org.mt/gbrs. Comments can be sent to the authority through e-mail address: gbr@mepa.org.mt by not later than December 7.
