St James Hospital introduces new PET/CT scanner

St James Hospital has launched a PET/CT imaging service that will allow for better treatment of patients who would otherwise have had to go abroad. The service was launched this morning after a €2 million investment.

"PET/CT imaging represents an innovative procedure in that it combines metabolic and biochemical data from a PET scan and structural or anatomic data from CT scan into one powerful imaging investigation," the hospital said.

It said its applications include diagnosis and treatment of cancer, tracing active inflammatory disease , neurology and cardiology.
