PL demands political responsibility over 'black dust'
Opposition environment spokesman Leo Brincat today called on the government to assume political responsibility for the problem of black dust, thought to be soot, over the south of Malta.
He told a press conference with a number of mayors that it was disappointing that while, eight years ago, the government said that the source of the soot appeared to be Marsa power station, it was now saying it was conducting studes and collecting fresh samples.
The current situation, he said, led one to wonder how the governemnt would handle the 31 tons of ash which the new power extension at Delimara would produce every day.

Is this another case of discrimination? Would we complain as much if the dust was white.

We do not even know where the dust is coming from. Using PL's logic regarding political violence, could this dust be caused by Labour militants? We should look at who is benefiting from this incident and it certainly government. Only the PL is seeking to gain political mileage out of this so its behaviour is, to say the least, suspicious.
I appeal to everybody to be on the lookout for squads of 'elves' scurrying furtively along darkened streets at night, ferrying buckets of black soot and scattering them all over the place. A clue: they might be dressed in ancient SMU uniforms (nostalgia never dies)

Black Dust you say Leo? How about Black Monday? Or how about the fact that PN only has a 1-seat majority due to Labour's mud-throwing exercise in JPO's Mistra case. Much like M Frendo's case who wanted to control abuses by bus owners/drivers. Labour is now in a campaign to discredit Tonio Fenech just because he went to watch a game on a businessman's jet. For Progressive Labour this is the mother of all sins. In case some of the socialists here forgot, Mintoff went on a yacht belonging to a businessma for 13 full days when he was still PM and adored as Salvatur. Not only, but half the cabinet went to meet him on arrival from his vacation!!
Same with JPO and same with the slot-machine shop owners who are out to stop T Fenech from closing their illegal shops. Rest assure that the moment the government tries to take the bull by the horn and fix a long-standing abuse, out comes the Labour brigade to try and defend the abusers while throwing loads of mud at the minister responsible. What's new in Progressive Labour with Inhobbkom Joseph? Maybe Maria Camilleri?

I am really fed up with this narrow minded mentality of political fanatics such as those portrayed in the post by Antoine Vella. Leaving the word 'black' aside, can you please tell us what does Black Monday has to do with Black Dust? You are just politically obssessed.
Can some one assure us that this dust falling on most of our towns and villages is not killing us slowly? If you think that this is a problem which is effecting the people living in South East Malta only you are totally wrong, since when the wind blows from the South the black dust shifts to the Central and North of Malta.
I think we were totally taken for a ride when cleaner environment was promised when we were asked to vote IVA for the referendum. I would say we are in a worse situation today since we are loosing our time on studies when MEPA can use the detailed data which is being collected by its monitoring stations at Zejtun, Msida and tal-Gordan in Gozo.

Joseph Muscat already offered some kind of apology for Black Monday. Did the PN offer the same kind of apology for the violence that erupted during Regatta, on 31st March, 1988. An act perpetrated by the SAG without any provocation. Or is this a case of two weights and two measures.

Of all people you, PL, talk about political responsibility!

What does "political responsibility" mean, according to the PL?
Tajba din. So they obstinately won't take political responsibility for Black Monday and 2 decades of Labour mob violence but expect government to be responsible for 'black dust'.
