Open weekend at Fort Manoel
An open weekend will be held at Fort Manoel in Manoel Island this weekend, marking the conclusion of external interventions in the rehabilitation of the historic structure.
The weekend will include scheduled tours around the fort, in both Maltese and English, as well as an exhibition of the fort’s history and other related activities.
Midi plc CEO Ben Muscat said that during the restoration works, the consortium received numerous requests from individuals and organisations asking to view the fort and now that the main structural interventions were complete, there was a short gap before internal works commenced so the fort was being opened up for those interested in viewing it.
Entrance to the open weekend is free and parking space will be available on Manoel Island.
People can visit between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Last week's publicity explicitly left the date out. So I did not go, obviously. Obviously I checked - on the midi website - and found the actual dates.... very useful this internet.
I cannot make it for the interesting lecture programme. I suggested they be recorded and uploaded + have been assured (by midi) that they are planning a publication about the fort.

Last Sunday the open weekend was mentioned in this paper. The visits were supposed to be possible last weekend. I went on Sunday and so did many other people. We were told by a person at the entrance that the visits were possible the following weekend. No apology for this mistake from the organisers?

I would like to point out that during WW2 Fort Emanuel was the home of the very first Special Forces of the British Army. The Lapaik special warfare school, named after its founder Cpt Jock Lapraik, was set out right in the confines of fort Emanuel.
Candidates that attended training at this school including the members from the British Special Boat Service and the Malta Special Service, were later sent on raiding missions in North Africa Greece and Sicily.
