Driver dies in Hamrun crash
A 59-year-old man from Cospicua died this morning in a head-on crash between a Ford Fiesta and a Toyota Hilux pick-up truck at St Joseph High Road in Hamrun.
The incident happened at about 6.15 a.m. People on the scene said that the driver of the car appeared to have lost control of the vehicle which crashed into the pick-up which was going in the other direction. Reports that he may have fallen ill before the incident could not be confirmed. The driver of the pick-up, a 50-year-old from Siggiewi, was not hurt.
The driver was carried out of the wreckage of the car by rescuers from the Civil Protection Department and rushed to Mater Dei Hospital.
The busy road was closed to traffic.

I knew Frans for nearly 40 years, mostly through our time together with EOD. His death is very tragic news and my condolences go to all his family.

I met Frans 27 years ago when I joined the army and we've been friends ever since. He was a very devoted husband, father and friend. He had a heart of gold and will be dearly missed by me and my family, and by everybody who knew him.
May his soul rest in peace.
