Inspectors of the Employment and Training Corporation found 901 people working illegally between January and May, Social Policy Minister John Dalli said. They included 160 foreigners.

The minister said in reply to a parliamentary question, that during the same period, 395 employers were arraigned for engaging people illegally. 131 regularised their situation before their cases were concluded, and were fined €58 each.

In the 34 court cases won by the ETC, the guilty employers were fined a total of €4,451.
