Fort Cambridge plc has applied for Mepa permission to restore the Fort Cambridge battery. The company plans to keep and recover the external appearance of the battery and restore it to its original extent.
Following Mepa approval, Fort Cambridge plc has already removed all alien structures which were part of the previous development. The battery has now been cleared and is awaiting restoration which will be carried out by skilled tradesmen and architects from TBA Periti under the supervision of architect Prof. Alex Torpiano.
Gap Developments plc has obtained plans of Fort Cambridge battery from military archives in the UK which have provided an insight of what the battery looked like when it was built.
The team of architects are working hard on reinstating the battery’s skyline. It is a battery that can be appreciated from above as most of the structure is below road level. The heaviest structural work will be carried out first followed by repairs, new services and apertures.
Fort Cambridge is one of the last forts of the 19th century situated on the Tigné Point peninsula which incorporates several military fortifications, dating to the late period of the Knights, the British and the French. Fort Cambridge was specifically built to accommodate one of only three produced 100-tonne guns by the British Army.
