Ryanair celebrates Bari route with free flights
Ryanair is celebrating the first anniversary of its Malta to Bari route with 500,000 free seats (inclusive of taxes and charges) for travel between December 1 and 17.
The free flights are from Malta to Bari, Barcellona (Girona), Madrid, Pisa, Stockholm, Trapani and Venice (Treviso)
Ryanair’s Ida Buonanno said:
“We are delighted to celebrate the first anniversary of the flight from Malta to Bari. Thanks to the three weekly flights which connect the Mediterranean island to Puglia Region, in Southern Italy, we have carried until today nearly 35,000 passengers on this route."
Seats have to be booked by midnight tomorrow.

Where's the party? In Bari? Or at the Palm Court Hotel? Certainly not at the Ritz. But it should be given that the Bari Malta route is one of global importance that shames, say, London - New York. Anyway happy hunting but don't forget you have a more decent alternative.

These flights to Bari are there, and in January as well - they cost a token 1 cent each way (sometimes money has to change hands for a contract to be in place). Simply search for the dates, look for the 0.01 euro flights and go for it. These INCLUDE all taxes and on-line check-in charges, one piece of hand luggage, and card charges if you pay by Visa Electron, often its worth taking out an Electron card just to get these flights. As often the case these days, if you take big cases or suitcases, forget to check-in online, or pay by credit card, extra charges may apply and you'll be told of these when booking. Again, there are loads of free (well, 0.02 euro return) flights including taxes and charges from Malta. Flights to the UK are often 10 euro fully inclusive and to a major London airport (as close as Heathrow, Gatwick, and easier than Stansted).

Adrian Agius,
the sale has been going on for a couple of days, so the free pisa/treviso tickets in the period have already gone. There are lots of free (1c) flights in the 3rd and 4th weeks of Jan though.

what you prefer is your business. The prime importance of Low Cost Carriers, though, is the number of Italians/Spaniards/Swedes who will take the opportunity and come to Malta in the otherwise dead season. They would surely not have come to spend money here were it not for such good deals.
And no they are not gimmicks. Having flown several times with this airline, like many millions of Europeans I know how to make sure that I pay the lowest possible fare sometimes just 1c - no baggage, no priority boarding and pay by Visa Electron (ask the banks). Most incoming tourists would, at that point, probably be prepared to spend more whilst on the Island rather, than on the flight to come here.

@ J.Scicluna
Do what you like...it's a free world after all. I choose my flights according to price and convenience, I don't care what the airline is, I don't owe anything to anyone. So if you are happy flying with "REAL" airlines, do so, and good luck to you!
PS...I never knew that Madrid Barajas and Dublin were ex-WW2 airfields, and imaginary ones at that.....I'm so glad you illuminated me with your knowledge today :)

@ J.Scicluna
The ad clearly states that it's free seats, free taxes and fee charges, I would have expected to pay for baggage, check-in etc etc but I repeat NOTHING is free. Regarding credit card expences, it's the other way round, if you pay by credit card you pay less.
Regarding the other REAL airlines, the difference in prices is enormous and not 'That little extra'.

How can anyone believe these gimicks?!
Some people simply have no idea what it costs to fly a commercial airplane but expect to fly for FREE! Granted, that a couple of seats could be "given" away, but there WILL be charges for Baggage, Check-in, Credit Card use, Boarding etc etc etc! Moreover, one can rest assured that unless the flight is going to (at least) break-even or make a profit, chances are that Ryanair and their ilk would cancell the flight outright wothout offering any alternatives!
I play safe and fly REAL, LEGACY carriers to REAL airports (not ex-WWII airfields), even if I sometimes have to pay that little bit more because I want peace of mind when travelling; be it for business or pleasure!
