@C. Camilleri.
I ask YOU. HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU SPARE TO HELP LONELY PATIENTS WITH TERMINAL ILLNESS AT MATER DEI HOSPITAL AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS. I KNOW THAT PEOPLE LIKE YOU BOAST ONLY BUT NO ACTION IS FORTHCOMING FROM THEM. THESE PATIENTS DO NOT NEED YOUR MONEY BUT NEED YOUR HANDS ON HELP. I KNOW AS I SPENT 7 WEEKS CARING FOR MY FATHER AND OTHER PATIENTS TILL THE DAY HE PASSED AWAY NOTWITSTANDING THAT MY MISSION IS WITH THE SICK, INJURED AND ABANDONED ANIMALS. We have many people like Mr. Camilleri and SO CALLED DESK CRITICS and Missions overseas WHEN THERE ARE LONELY PATIENTS AT MATER DEI ETC WHO DESPERATELY NEED ALL THE LOVE AND CARE THEY CAN GET.
CHARITY -EVEN WITH ANIMALS -BEGINS AT HOME

@ C Camilleri - You know something? I really pity you. I look at your surname and pity you. I prove nothing but pity for you. Why? Because you have not been TOUCHED by the beauty and love of a 'stray cat'. I have. Twice. Moreover, I look after dozens of stray cats every day, and the satisfaction that I get from helping these strays cannot be described. It is immense. It is God-given. But it is a GIFT. Not everyone is BLESSED by appreciating these beautiful creatures. Helpless creatures. Vulnerable creatures. Able to love you back, and show how much they appreciate the food you give them, the water y ou give them, the kind words you give them every day.
But of course, you know nothing about that! Poor you!

@ C Camilleri - Your love (sic!) for animals is noted. You seem to ignore the fact that all creatures are God's and that we, mere human beings, are nothing better than any other creatures.People who are suffering can help themselves or else they are easily helped by individuals; in the meantime, you seem to accept the fact that animals languish and suffer in silence. Is that right?
And do you realise that many, many people like myself do not contribute anything towards Strina simply because animal concerns are ignored?

@ you all
Thank god no money went for animals!!!
Are you all out of your mind? Wasting money on animals when our fellow people brothers and sisters are suffering?
I would not contribute a single cent if some of the money will be wasted on some stray cat.

I just want to say a BIG Thank You to all those who worked tirelessly to collect the monies that were today distributed to some of the needy in our islands, especially the organisations working for needy children. Its a pity how some need to spin a controversy about everything and anything under the moon. Fund raising is hard work and when someone is raising funds for those who need it then they deserve to be encouraged and applauded. May God bless their efforts a hundred times over. Keep up the good work guys and girls at Malta Community Chest Fund and their friends...

Notwithstanding the boasting of helping animal welfare societies not a single euro cent was given to animal welfare ngo's. If you would like to practice christmas carols then here is one for you sung on music of DECK THE HALLS. It Maltese lyrics were written by a staunch Animal animal lover.

@Franco. I only asked a question that requires a simple answer. Were was the money waiting and who got the interest if there was any? Did it go to pay the multitude of paper pushers who are involved (not everyone is a volunteer) or did it go directly to those who needed it quickly like for example animal sanctuaries which run SOLELY on donations?
To answer your question. No I did not and never will contribute a cent to strina as long as it is organised the way it was. Don't you remember the many comments on Times On line showing disgust at the way money was collected last time?
When I donate I do so directly to the organisation that I feel needs it most. Without bowing to disgusting pressure from a TV station and I do so immediately.
I also happen to have seen the way some people who ask for money are treated.

None of the sanctuaries or any animal welfare organisation has been included if I read the article correctly. Shame!

@ Mr Schembri: First of all, 'you expect an explanation', and yet, only God knows what part you yourself had in the collection of these funds!
Secondly, could it be, could it just be that interest has been accrued to the benefit of the Malta Community Chest Fund? And if that were the case, what's wrong with that?

Why does it take 11 months to disttribute the money? Where has it been sitting now? One bank I bank with pays me 2.2% p.a. interest on a savings account. The article doesn't say but if the sum were let's say 1 million euros interest for 11 months would have been ... considerable. I expect an explanation for this even though I believe that it is what happened in the past years too.
