Two dogs may have to be put down after they were thrown a height of more than a storey from a street into a field last night.
The incident happened near Zabbar.
Officials from the Animal Welfare Department picked up the dogs this morning, but both were found to be suffering multiple fractures.

I agree with Mr. Franco Farrugia 100%.
Poor dogs. From the frying pan into the fire. Why was'nt the animal ambulance called to intervene. The video clearly shows that the dogs were neighter injured nor had breathing problems. THIS IS A CLEAR CASE THAT A NEW POLICY HAS BEEN ADOPTED. SHORT CUTS BY COLLECT AND KILL. And Minister Pullicino boasts infront of the cameras about 700 or so "ANIMAL RESCUES". U hallina GORG. INT F'XI TORTA TIFHEM.
Two months ago I was asked to help an injured cat that was run down by a car in Valletta.
She was in a far worst state than those dogs as she couldnt' even make use of her hind legs. SHE WAS CRAWLING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WAITING FOR THE COLPE DE GRACE. Through intensive aftercare BY MEMBERS OF THE SAINT FRANCIS FOUNDATION FOR ANIMALS AND HAPPY PAWS the cat is now running on all four. SPECIAL THANKS GOES TO DR. ALEX SELLES LORENS AT HAPPY PAWS.

@ Godric - 1. Imma allura, intom, bhala Animal Welfare, ma tinsistux mal-Pulizija li ssir investigazzjoni. Li kieku kienet persuna li twaddbet, kienet issir investigazzjoni - allura, annimali le????????
2. Fl-istqarrija, inghad li dawn iz-zewgt iklieb kellhom 'multiple fractures'. Insaqsi biss: 'multiple fractures' ghax kienu mitfughin sular gholi? 'Multiple fractures' u gbidtuhom bla hniena bil-habel lejn il-vannijiet? 'Multiple fractures' u dawn imxew fuq saqajhom? U x'tip ta' problemi ta- nifs kellhom? U jekk kienu allura perikoluzi, ghax ma raqqadtuhomx b'dik l-ixkubetta li tant thobbu turu?
Ma tahxibx li qedin 'traqqdu' l-klieb malajr, hekk?
Jien minix niggudika lilek u lit-team kollu. Alla jaf x'qedin taraw b'ghajnejkom u x-xoghol taghkom mhux facli. Imma tridu thobbu l-annimali biex taghmluh dan ix-xoghol. Dan mhux xoghol kwalunkwe.
(I am asking a few pertinent questions about the state of the two dogs and why they were recovered in the way they were shown on video. I asked why they weren't drugged since they were in paid and so, vicious. I am not judging the people behind this work because their work is far from easy. But whoever is involved in this work must love animals first and foremost.)

The first "person" caught doing some act of violence should really be made a example off.
Enough is enough. We have to many of these cases in our so called civilized country.

Shame on the person who did this. I hope the police do their very best to catch and prosecute this monster and an example made of him or her. Why do certain people have pets if they can't look after them?

What the Animal Welfare dept has become? A bulky refuse collector? With this policy of simply picking up injured dogs and putting them down they are simply encouraging more people to throw away animals and torture them as any way they please...then the Animal Welfare will come to clean up the easy way out!

those two dogs didnt had fractures only they had vital organs damage two they had problem breathing too they were caught by cathcers because they were vicious and it wasnt their fault first because they were in pain and second because one so called human!!!!!!!!!! throw them from that height .

Where are animal rights ? Adequate care should be provided so that these creatures be spared and cared for. When is the microchip going to become obligatory ?

It so very easy to say have them PUT Down and wash your hands of this episode, its not their fault that they suffered fractured bones, so why the agro, why not give them a chance of a normal life, i bet if you were in their place you guys would like t be given the chance surely, NO NO NO Sunshine, the problem lies with the people that commit these crimes and not these animals, wake up to reality, maybe you guys sleep better at night. I am an animal lover big or small and i believe we are all entitled to breath the same air if we were all given the chance to:- Think about it you know it makes sence!*************************************

I wonder really how these dogs have to be put down simply because they have fructures. We can kill people now because they have fructures from accidents etc. It's unbelievable, simply because they are dogs not human beings!!!

I just wonder do the Police or any authority know of the person or persons guilty of this inhuman act? i sure would like to get to the bottom of this as this is going a bit too far for these peaceful islands and is throwing a bad iimage on the whole population of these countries, both here and abroad where these stories are read.

If caught the Courts should make them read the contents of these blogs, to show them how hated and despised these ba----ds are!

This news is humiliating for the whole Maltese Nation. How can we still believe that animals don't suffer and that they don't have a consciousness of their own: they are sentient beings like we are. The only difference is that they are not capable of introspection and reflection about the future and the past.

As to thelaw, mandatory chipping has to be introduced to have all pet owners liable and responsible for theanimal they have in their care and for any negligence they inflict on them. Such cases should be taken more seriously by the LawEnforcement and harsher penalties introduced. Afterall, this incident definitely cannot be a result of a sanemind. If these dogs were owned their neighbours should beable to identify theirpictures if published in the localnewspapers, especially since their bark isn't heard anymore. Anexample should beset.
We all know that we've a problem and that it's not going tobe solved overnight so mayI take this opportunity to suggest that theSanctuaries shouldn’t be left to deal with thisproblem on their own. They are always low on funds and always inneed of other resources such as blankets, collars, leashes and food. I'am not a volunteer who goes to theSPCA, it all happened by chance but I always have a can of dogfood in my car and try to home abandoneddogs instead of taking them to aSanctuary or as in this case finding ahome before theSanctuary does.
Maybe theauthorities aren't doing their part on abandonedanimals, but we can do much more tohelp these adorable creatures.

I've recently visited theSPCA were I met a beautiful dog of not more than 2years whom I named Toby. He was most likely abandoned and had just been picked up by the AnimalWelfare. He was all skin and bones and very terrified. I decided after being suggested by theSPCA to sponsor the dog which only cost 7Euros a month until thedog is homed. In that way the SPCA would contact me if thedog needed any other care which they could not provide. Obviously not happy to leave him behind I tried my best to find him a home and thanks to facebook and a circle of friends who posted him on their profile was contacted the following day by someone who was willing to adopt him. Unlike others this was a happyending and if it weren’t for the AnimalWelfare who picked him and for theSPCA who kept him I wouldn’t have met Toby and helped out. For those of you, who criticise the SPCA or the AnimalWelfare for not being so delicate, please do bear in mind that they are helping out and trying to amend to barbaric actions of certain human beings, which shouldn’t be even classified as species.

I think there should be a simple solution to this case....Throw the guilty person off the same storey and hope that they suffer multiple fractures.

Hope these dogs won't be put down. I am sure they can be healed with time and tender loving care. Now, the only living 'thing' that has to be put down is the culprit who did this, I wouldn`t have any mercy on him or them. These poor dogs deserve to live. Let this story have a happy ending. We rarely hear of happy endings nowadays. Only bad news!

Bones heal by time. As long as their organs and stuff are in good shape then no need to put them down. They seemed well enough, also if they had multiple fractures it would show in the video.

Why on earth do these dogs have to be killed just because some stupid human decided to get rid of them... i never wanted to have a dog but i found one when he was only about a month old and i decided to keep him and he really brings joy to my life... i think that who ever has thrown the dogs out should be prosecuted and not kill the dogs... one of them really resembles my dog that it made my eyes fill with tears seeing the video. by the way I do think that the dogs look really healthy.

Incidents of animal cruelty continue to appear regularly. How can the people who do these evil, senseless acts against helpless animals sleep at night? These dogs probably gave their torturers all their affection up to the very moment of being thrown into the field, The callous individual/s who did this need/s to be brought to justice and deserve to be locked up, not just fined some paltry sum.

Is that it? Is that it, I ask the authorities? Will the Police investigate as to who did this awful, abyssimal thing? Shall we look the other way, bringing in feeble excuses about abortion and the unborn, as if this has anything to do with the poor dogs? For how long are animal lovers going to sit and have patience with people in authority who simply will not do anything about this dire situation in our country? I don't care about what happens in other countries. I only care about what happens in mine and I want my country to be animal-friendly!

Unbelievable....what an unfeeling and egoistic nation we have turned into. Couldn't the owner just take them to the S.P.C.A where they would have been given a chance for a new home, or at worst face a painless death? Had they not been noticed, they would probably have died a slow and agonising death in a few days time of hunger and of their wounds. Such cruelty really makes me sick!

Cruelty against animals should become a criminal offence. The Animal Welfare Department should also consider a better way of picking up the dogs, they don't seem to have been treated with care after the ordeal they have been through. Hope something can be done in order not to put them down and hopefully find a loving home for them.

Is there any chance for the police to catch the MONSTERS who did this? I hope that I am honour them with this name.

Please, please Mario, try to find the culprit of such cruelty. So these two nice mongrels had to be put down because of some sick sadist. I beg the Police Commissioner to unite forces with Mr Spiteri's staff to order a massive search for the monster who pushed these two innocent dogs to death. Please do it at least to serve as a good example if you really want to check this cruelty of animals!
