Was Czech President inspired by Queen?

It rarely happens that one has the opportunity to commend Labour politicians for their lucidity and insight into the issues. But I hasten to applaud John Attard Montalto MEP for his remarkably clear and sharp analysis of the Czech President's position on the Lisbon Treaty.

There is an unfortunate tendency to mix pure domestic policy strategy in the campaign for the EU Parliament elections, as we saw in Malta and the rest of Europe in June this year, but Dr Attard Montalto was incidentally one of the few positive exceptions.

President Vaclav Klaus has pressed the lemon to the last drop in his attempt to score points at home - namely by opposing his own parliamentary ratification of the treaty. But the latest is that he agreed on Friday to sign a Swedish proposal for some subordinate clauses in the treaty, which can camouflage his retreat. However, it is more likely that he has suddenly seen how cold it is, being the only one to go against the rest of Europe. There have been few followers such as UK Conservative leader David Cameron, who has taken the opportunity to send a non-committal threat on a possible treaty-vote in the UK after a power switch - hot air, the train is running! The UK's only alternative would be to secede from the Union and put a cork in the Channel Tunnel.

To put it in Dr Attard Montalto's terms: it may be that the Czech President has been in London to enjoy The Bohemian Rhapsody in the Queen musical and there has been inspired by the title We Will Rock You. . .
